Having 500+ whp is nice... but I find it extremely difficult to find a car to race that is worth my gas lol...
Lol I'm not going for 800 straight away, my clutch and tranny won't be able to handle it haha.

But like I always say, the atmosphere is different down here. 500whp is only mid tier. So eventually, yes, I'll need 700+ to hang with the big boys. Maybe after I get used to 450 ish progressively like you did lol.

Absolutely agree on both points lol. I'd be reluctant to run you also if I heard it!

Honestly I think having 7-800whp is pretty entry level anymore. Regardless of where you are. I don't really care either way..if I wanted the fastest car around I wouldn't be building an e36 lol.

I wouldn't agree. Maybe if you are talking half mile events and stuff.. but for the street, 500whp will still walk away from 99% of cars you come across. I think 550-600 is perfect for an e36 dd. It'll be 500# lighter than most of your competitors so factor that in as well.

Just for reference I hung with a 650whp 5.0 recently. I'm making maybe 525-550. E36 is relatively light compared to a lot of big power cars you come across..

Oh I agree it is plenty for 99%+ of the cars out on the road..but the turbo LS cars and Coyote cars will still be a handful. It is comical how heavy cars are nowadays.

For daily driving, yea, you'll kill 99% of the cars you meet on the road with a 500whp e36. That ratio drops to a 50/50 chance when you roll up to the car meets I go to for the most part lol.

my car was mirror to mirror with a 684whp GT500 too. but i have some weight reduction. I estimated 530-550whp too. the power to weight ratio was spot on. 91 octane about 16psi base tune

If you make 530-550 on 16 psi then it wouldn't be much of a race as I sit right now. I'm full weight, ~3150, and on crappy stock na cams that made much less than you on 16psi

are you planning on running at the track in the spring? maybe we can compare trap speeds? haha. Im full weight with gutted trunk. should be about 3100lbs but havent been to track to confirm. completely stock head and motor just 8.5:1 Carillo pistons and eagle rods. btw do you have your dyno sheet by chance? would love to see the curve and compare BMW 3.0L with same turbo

Here are the second and third pulls.

Couple notes on the above. These are the baseline pulls we did before we finished ramping in all of the timing and finishing up the tune for pump gas. The best pull we the first one that did 465/401. 17psi, flat 14 degrees of timing across the board in boost. I literally drove the car off the highway and onto the dyno. I'd estimate on 16-17psi we were just shy of 500 when it was all said and done on pump 93.

And yes I plan to have a 16" dr on the back and to make some passes this spring. My expectations are low. I have never made a pass in this car..let alone, launched it.

^^ wow that powerband looks healthy. definitely more under the curve than most 2jz with 72mm+ turbos. im jealous you can rev to 7500 stock! yeah i suck at launching and these chassis break stuff so ill be going for trap speed really. thatll tell who wins in a roll race anyway. haha good luck to you, hope to see more kill vids

Thanks! Yeah it was surprising to see the power band with the stock na cams. Guys are typically seeing 50-60whp in this power range from getting 268/268 cams, but we shall see what I decide to do once we get a high boost curve.

The car just got a large case 4 clutch setup so hopefully that helps. The last stock bit in the driveline are the axles.

Don't forget C6 Vette's are pretty light (and aerodynamic). Generally takes another ~150whp on a GT500 to pull the equivalent C6. But yes, the E36 and E30's do better than their numbers indicate from what I seen as well. How much do swapped E36's and E30's weigh in at?

Good to see you on here too DI ;-)

Would love to run into a boosted E36 or E30 for fun. Only recent Bimmer run I had was an older "full bolt on" M5 (V10) at the toys for tots event. Even though I spun all 2nd, I quickly reeled him in and freight trained him.

It was a fun night. His car is lighter than mine..3150 + 2 people..he was by himself. I would rather give it another pound of boost than start removing stuff.

Full weight turbo e30s range 2900lbs full weight down to 2500lbs if gutted. e36s from 3250lbs down to 2800lbs if gutted...and boy does that power/weight ratio get SWEEET. im full weight with AC and leather interior sedan and im ~3050lbs. after sunroof delete and some sport seats i should be about 2900lbs with AC with room for 4 = )

That's awesome. I did weigh my car with a full tank and a spare (DS1 w/ tire) in the trunk..so I am probably closer to 3100 with a full tank. The R154 is also heavier than the 420g, and the new flywheel is much lighter than the stock 1jz unit, so I would expect I am under 3100lbs come spring, with a full tank and no spare/driver.

I am not that experienced with this type of power under my foot either..thus I had no issue spending most of the season on pump gas and low boost. 465+whp still felt really fast.
