Indeed, inquiring minds want to know... because there might be more valves in the works (I'ven't taken one of these apart).
If the leak is as big as I'm picturing and it's actually a leak, I would expect brake cleaner, carb cleaner - basically, anything volatile and flammable - sprayed onto that spot to affect idle. You might just try that. It's less reliable than a smoke test, but still doesn't give false positives.

Sorry for the delay, it's been hard to catch a break lately, and I had to change the front brakes on my land cruiser in the interim.
I wound up buying a MightyVac for that, and used the suction cup attachment to test if the brake booster will hold a vacuum. It won't. Not at all. I am guessing that once the boot on the back cracked, dust got in the seals around the piston. Oh well. Thanks for the help.
I do not have OP’s problem but trying to figure out where item no. 6 connects there is not any clear diagram or anything . Very frustrating
Item 6, the hose with an elbow and a checkvalve? The elbow end plugs into the brake booster. The other end connects to a hose, whose other end is a nipple on the throttle body (below and to starboard, if memory serves). The check valve is apparently missing from this photo:
