So does the F10 M5

No that's a totally legit challenge. many factory turbo cars tend to be fully toned down for sure. Factory V6 TT for instance tends to sound pretty assy.
I'm prejudiced but try a decent Audi I5 turbo for instance. Add little power and then take some factory muff away and those things sound great. Ripping.
A beastly 930 (or other non-over-sanitized 911) turbo sounds forking amazing.
One thing about turbos is they can often get away without much exhaust at all, the turbo quiets down low throttle angle noise enough to get away w minimal muffs and then it just rips when you WOT it...
Different than V8 burble rumble sounds for sure, Doesn't take away from that at all but turbos def can sound real real good... The 2 above sound way more real racecar and unique at WOT than some rumble bumble generic V8 thang that sounds exactly like some dudes rando no exhaust pickup truck....

If you want a turbo + V8 + excellent exhaust then > Mercedes AMG.
The F10 550i has a proper V8 sound.
The only reason the F10 M5 doesn't sound good is because of their exhaust cross flow technology, so no matter what ever exhaust setup you install from resonators, 6" straight pipes, cat-less exhausts, mufflers, etc unless if you do not change out the actual exhaust manifolds you'll never get get that growling V8 noise. If there is a way to adapt or make a conventional style exhaust turbo manifold like there is on the N63 engines mated to the S63tu engine, then there's a good possibility to make your M5 sound like the AMG's or Mustangs or the Corvette. After such setup you could pull the fuse for active sound and hear the true natural sound of the V8.
Well, I thought the F10 sounded great when I drove it and I don't even care if what I heard inside was piped in (you can't tell), the outside sounded great to me as well.

Yeah, I'm not saying the M5 sounds really bad either but it sounds very different and in an interesting way. When the first videos were released after its debut I thought the cabin noise sounded like a jet engine while on the outside it sounded like a flat plane crank but redlining to 4k rpm only.

I actually do not mind the cabin noise.
Out of turbo V8 cars, the only ones I've heard where I like the sound are the Mercedes AMG's. The E63 sounds absolutely brilliant, like a mean muscle car. Maybe if the newer BMWs sounded like that stock I'd be more into them.

Like I've said, BMW's with turbo V8's do but they are not the ///M V8 cars sadly speaking. Just the non-///M cars like the 550i, 750i, 650i, non-M X5/6. The in cabin noise sounds really really nice when you get on it. I don't know if 550i's are equipped with the active sound or not. Doesn't seem so. Delete the mufflers only and it sounds amazing. Do more exhaust modifications, or install supersprints, x-pipe, Eisenmann exhausts, RPI, etc, and it sounds even better.

Cool discussion on Turbo exhaust.... most 930s sound pretty tame compared to non turbos
Cayenne TT with secondary cat deletes / Fabspeed pipes sound really good. Much better than my 2010 X5M
Anyways, to sorta return this thread back to the original topic, I rolled over 185,000 miles in the touring the other day. It's been working fine, no complaints really. I have so many new parts to install on it (rest of the rear suspension bits, new driveshaft, some more front suspension bits) but all of that has been put on hold while I'm moving... My lease is up at the current place I'm staying, so I decided to move instead of signing a new lease at a much higher rent. I found a house that's cheaper than what I'm currently paying, has no HOA, and is 15 minutes from my workplace and my girlfriend's workplace, versus about an hour each way like it is now. The new house isn't in a pretty suburb like the current one is, but I'll gladly take the lower rent and decreased commute times. Plus the new house has a large backyard that I can park cars in, as well as a pretty large detached garage. Detached garage and no HOA means it's time to hook up a giant air compressor Maybe now I can learn how to paint without anybody bothering me.
What's funny is that I bought the X5 with the intent to use its towing hitch to rent a big trailer for moving, but since it's dead for the time being I'll have to get it towed to the new house and I'll have to use the touring for most of the moving.
