2003 330i ZHP Sedan LS3 Swap for Sale

Cross posting from For Sale Forum.

    2003 330i ZHP Sedan with LS3 and T56 Swap

There aren’t too many E46/LS swaps out there, and this is certainly one the most sorted out there. Other than engine noise and some vibration differences you’d be hard pressed to tell it isn’t stock sitting inside. A/C blows cold! All gauges work with the exception of the MPG gauge. Everything is functional except traction control and cruise control. It is a daily driver and occasional track day car.

    Body:
    • 126k miles (swap completed at 121k miles)
    • Good condition – no rust
    • Paint – 7/10 (black tends to show every scratch and swirl mark)
    • Interior – 7/10, leather in good condition. Re-wrapped alcantara wheel, newer shift knob, ZHP specific trim and alcantara shift boob and park brake boot
    • ZHP specific front and rear fasia ad lip spoiler
    • Both front fog light lenses are cracked, but no water yet. I’ve replaced these once already, but they are in a susceptible spot

    Engine:
    • L92 (truck version of LS3) pulled from and Escalade at 70k miles
    • An ear on the block broke during build so I sourced a brand new LS3 block
    • New rings and bearings
    • Full head rework including new LS3 valves (hollow stem on exhaust side) and aftermarket springs and pushrods
    • Mild cam from SMC performance
    • Vorshlag headers with dual 3” exhaust
    • Vorshlag engine mounts, but changed to lower durometer polyurethane to improve NVH
    • New water pump, alternator and A/C compressor. Turn One P/S pump
    • Customer C&R radiator with 55mm core and a 16” Spal high volume fan
    • Z06 oil cooler
    • LS7 clutch
    • Holley hotrod oil pan with optional baffling
    • 407hp at the rear wheels

    Driveline:
    • T56 trans from a 2002 Camaro
    • Upgraded to carbon synchro rings, bronze shift fork busting and iron 1-2 shift fork
    • Hurst shifter grafted to the stock BMW shift level
    • 3” diameter one piece aluminum drive shaft
    • E46 M3 210mm diff with LSD and larger M3 half shafts

    Suspension:
    • E46 M3 front LCAs and spindles
    • E46 M3 rear trailing arms and adjustable LCAs
    • TC Kline DA dampers with camber plates and height adjusters. 450lb/in from springs and 500lb/in rears

Wheels - 18 X 9.5 Apex ARC 8 wheel in hyper black all around. One wheel has a scuff mark, but all are straight.

Brakes – Stoptech ST-40 calipers and Stoptech 355mm floating rotors all around

    Controls/wiring:
    • GM E38 standalone ECU
    • All tuning was done by Phil Hoeffler (aka Dr. Phil) with a focus on drivability vs. absolute peak hp numbers
    • I have an HPTuners setup and all of the tune files that would be included in the sale. .
    • EFI Connection engine harness (all new connectors, wires, etc.)
    • Using stock BMW DBW accelerator pedal so placement for heel and toe is stock
    • Using and Arduino setup from Thaniel to convert CAN signal between GM and BMW protocol to run the cluster and A/C function. I have an on/off switch in the glove box for the Arduino so that it does not interfere with data logging.
    • Analog gauges in center console for water temp, oil temp and oil pressure

The car does have cats and no CELs, but it is the buyer’s responsibility to understand what is required for registration and inspection by their local authorities

Just going to say: damn that's a beauty, why haven't you had this posted up before (or did I honestly miss the build thread)? ZHP + LSx sounds like a winner in my book. Your location accurate? Too rich for my blood but I'd love to see it one day (I live by Woodward).

Yes. Location is accurate. It's gotten some strange looks at the Dream Cruise due to the sound.

I was too lazy to create a build thread, but I've posted several threads on specific items like working with Thaniel (huge help!) and getting the BMW DBW pedal to work.

Haha I bet it gets some looks! If you're ever around Woodward in the evening or Dearborn during the day, let me know!

So you can have what I consider a nicer and more functional base car + the LS3 swap for a lot less than just the conversion price for one of these: http://www.motortrend.com/news/flyin...-to-v-8-power/

So I received a PM from a forum member who was politely inquiring about my bottom end on pricing. He formulated a number based on an assumed value for the base car and the cost for the conversion. The number that he used for the conversions was $9k. While $9k number MAY get you a very basic LSX conversion, this project was nowhere close to that. So in the interested of helping people understand the costs of building a car such as mine (both to help sell it ;-) and to educate people who are considering such a project) I have compiled a spreadsheet of the costs that I have incurred over the last 3 years (this is painful BTW). Some of these numbers are estimates since I didn't save every receipt, and I'm also sure that I have forgotten some things. I also didn't include maintenance or wear items or the new LS3 block that I purchased after cracking the original trying to mount the trans. I'll also admit that I got a pretty good deal on the base car, engine, trans, brakes and dampers. Looks these up at retail and you'll see what I mean. So please don't nit pick the list with "I found this part on eBay $50 cheaper..."

Also realize that I did all of my own work. So I've not included any costs for that, but 300 hours probably wouldn't be far off. At $75/hr that would be $22,500 in labor if you were to have a shop do it for you. They might be more time efficient, but you can contact JakeB who built another awesome car and get a quote http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...ammed-LS3-Swap.

    Enjoy!

I'm never brave enough to put together a list like you did. Worried that my wife might see it!

$9000 is a low number unless you are using a basic 5.3 200K mile LS and used T56.

    By the way nice car.

That's a really nice wagon. Looks like you will get a proper amount for it in BAT

When I submitted my car to BaT last month they said they would take it, but wanted me to set the reserve at $15k. When I said that the reserve would need to start with a "2" they declined... Maybe the success of the wagon will change their minds.

Wife finding the list is one way of looking at this. The other way is seeing how many very costly mistakes are done by looking at the list

When selling a car on forums, you will get bunch of lowballers like that all the time that will want to tell you how much your car should cost, it's just a nature of the forums. Yes, you do have (what I consider) bunch of costly mistakes that I see in your list, but you also have what looks like a nice, sorted car that costs way more than $9k

    Thanks.

Car will reside in SoCal, but the owner is in the military. So he can register the vehicle back home in Arizona.
