Rough idle, misfires, and no power after plug change

    Hi all,

2 days ago I started my car (2006 330xi, 152k miles) and it was clearly missing a cylinder. Everything was fine the day before. I checked the codes and it came back with a #1 misfire. I bought a new coil and 6 new plugs, replaced them all without problems but now the car runs worse.

When I start it, the idle is all over between 600 and 1000 rpms. Revving to 2000 smooths things out, but when I let off it runs rough again and starts to throw codes. Driving it around the block, it was smooth while cruising, but had no power at all. Getting back home it was rough again and barely idling at 500rpm. The codes this time were cylinders 1, 2 and 3 misfires, along with 0300 for random misfire.

    Here are my thoughts:
    1) GetBMWParts lists 2 different coils, one for pre 04/06, one for after. My car is pre, the coil I bought is likely for after because the tab on the wire harness is in a different spot (I cut the tab out to make it fit).
    2) Oreilly auto gave me NGK 6619 Iridium plugs. The NGK site lists these as "Not OEM spec" and lists the NGK 1208 as the better plugs. Old plugs looked a little worn and slightly larger gap (which could explain a coil going bad)
    3) Couldn't find my anti-seize. Had some anti-seize for muzzle loader breech bolts - wondering if that might be restricting electrical contact

    Here are my potential solutions:
    1) pull plugs, double check gaps (what is the correct gap?), remove anti-seize and maybe replace with copper
    2) Replace NGK plugs with 1208
    3) order what may be the correct coil from GetBMWParts.com
    4) I also read something about resetting the throttle adaptation or something like that???

    Any ideas out there?

The coils came off and went back on pretty easily. Didn't appear to be anything a 2 ring pliers would be used for

Next, remove all six ignition coil insulators from valve cover. This also provides more clearance when removing valve cover. Using 90 snap ring pliers, compress insulator and slide up and out of valve cover. Do this for all six ignition coil insulators.

    Maybe this helps. Figure 17

    2003 bmw 320i touring
Hi guys need some help please.....i own a 2003 320i touring and just recently my emmission warning light has come on and when the car is in Idle mode (ticking over) the revs constanly go up and down. Car runs smooth when out and about but when stopped at lights it Idles rough....could this be that the ignition coils and plugs need replacing or something more sinister has happened.
    Any thoughts?
