MZ3 radiator has the brackets that correspond to the oil cooler. No need to make anything, just buy the appropriate oil cooler and fittings/hoses. I will find my parts list and send to you if you PM me your email address.

Yeah but then I need to buy the MZ3 oil cooler and lines. I already have the S54 oil cooler and lines. From what I understand they're different enough that the brackets from the MZ3 stuff won't work...

Like I said, I have a parts list for everything to install into an e36 Doc, so send me your email. S54 oil cooler should work fine with the OEM brackets as that is what I bought/installed.

I have the S54 M3 oil cooler, it's not the same as the MZ3 S54 oil cooler. The OEM brackets won't work....

Is buying this an option and re-selling your e46 m3 oil cooler? Only $136 bucks and after searching back through my parts list is what I had installed:

    Oilcooler:
    17212244084

    http://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/1...84-MFG166.aspx
    Radiator:

    Oil Cooler Bracket:
    17512243659
    Bolt (2ea):
    11652243770
    O-Ring (4ea):
    17222245358
    Screw (2ea):

I made my own when mounting the s54 cooler below my s52 radiator. I dont have any photos - but made it all from aluminum flat stock. Works for now.

Yeah, I need to decide whether to fab my own brackets or sell this stuff and pick up the MZ3 stuff. What sucks is the oil lines are just different enough that I need to buy those too...

Which is why I ended up AN converting with Turners adapters....

That is what I did - eventually. I am still using the s54 cooler, but now with AN lines. Making the s54 lines work on the s52 was tricky - and not ideal as the cooler was slightly angled.

I'd like to use the MZ3 radiator (17112227281) with a cooler mounted beneath but I will be using the cooler as a power steering cooler, not an engine oil cooler. Oil line fitment is not a concern for my application.

Is the Euro oil cooler the only piece that bolts to the MZ3 radiator without modification? Or is there a US spec (less expensive?) cooler than will fit directly to the MZ3 radiator?

    TIA.

EDIT: Also, just read a post that implies that the cooler location beneath the radiator will have restricted airflow if using the US radiator shroud, which differs from the Euro M3 shroud?

    Maybe this will work? https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_In...2-244-084-M166

I ordered this one for my build but it is showing OOS most everywhere. https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/17212244084

In looking more closely at the BMW OE oil coolers, it looks like they use flared o-ring lines that press-fit to the cooler. That's probably more trouble that it's worth for my purposes. I'm probably better off just finding a properly sized universal cooler with -AN or barbed fittings.

I did find that the Euro OE shroud for the MZ3 (17112227281) radiator is readily available. Part #17112227684. Found in this diagram.

The part number for the OE oil cooler is 17212244084 which is what that pelican oil cooler is listed under. Laengerer & Reich is the OEM supplier, they supply the OE part for BMW, but are MUCH cheaper that the OE part.

    Hope this makes more sense.

No clue if the Modine branded oil cooler from Pelican is good or bad quality. The oil cooler sold by Bimmerworld for $200 is Langerer & Reich.

Note that the S54 oil cooler is reported to be not outstandingly effective under track conditions, although for an S50/52 with a lot less hp it might be good enough. For track use I'd be much more concerned with its vulnerable location hanging below the radiator. Just a few weeks ago at Grattan a Mustang experienced a fairly mild 2-wheels off that tore off his oil cooler hoses and then dumped the entire engine oil fill onto several hundred feet of track. Can't have done the motor much good either.

You'll also need to look into the under-radiator air duct/shroud setup. In a stock US car there's a baffle to block air from bypassing the coolant radiator that you must remove if using a Euro-style oil cooler. If you have some kind of aftermarket splitter you'll likely have to figure that out for yourself. (I have the opposite setup: the sheet metal Euro radiator duct but with an oil cooler mounted higher up in front of the rad. I had to fab up a baffle to block bypass air.)

This is true, but I'm not sure what the alternative is. I get maybe 10-15 degrees of oil temp improvement. I tried a substantial eBay oil cooler mounted in from the the radiator, deleting the A/C fan. The results was a multi-year nightmare of intermittent overheating problems with confusing symptoms and data. Eventually I realized that it was averaging the oil and water temps -- great oil temps, but high water temps. This was a E36/8 M Coupe. Regular E36 may be different as it has different airflow.

An E46 M3 radiator will fit into a Z3, so you can hang one below, in the "proper" spot with OEM(ish) parts.

Personally, I mounted a Setrab in front, where the stock electric fan is.

If you're the lazy type like me you could buy a kit put together by Zionsville.
It will save you time and aggravation and will cost roughly the same as if you bought the parts yourself.
