Hello all, Newbie here with what i figured would be a simply question.
Its time to replace the Clutch on my 2004325i non sequential~125K miles. Ive started tearing it apart and went to buy the clutch. I would prefer to ditch the dual mass flywheel, and SAC. So a kit like Valeo or GripForce sells was exactly what I was looking for (all in one).
Here is where the issue comes up. It appears none of these will work with 2004325i?! I have even directly called VALEO, GripForce, and Bavarian Auto to double check, and no luck. They say this year isnt supported for some reason. I cant be the only person to want to swap out the Dual Mass, and SAC.
Where do I go guys, I would prefer to stay in that $600 dollar range as well.
Any guidance would be appreciated, what have other 04 owners do?
That's odd, I can't believe BMW changed clutch designs mid-stream. Here's what you do: go to www.realoem.com and enter the last 7 characters of your car's vehicle identification number. Hit enter and bookmark the page. Go to the clutch section and write down the part numbers of the components of the parts that correspond to the clutch kit. Then click on "select another car." Build another year of the E46 325i and see if the clutch part numbers match.
What transmission do you have?
Also in realoem if you just click on the part number it will tell you everything that part is on

It looks like the only numbers that are different is the pressure plate. But I suspect that the real difference is the spline number of the shafts. I'll have to get the clutch out to verify.
If that's the case the only thing that would differ in 10 and 22 splines would be the clutch plate wouldn't it?
Yes, but is the pressure plate the same on both 10 and 22 splines? If so my thoughts are I could buy the kit. Then buy a 22 splines friction plate
Everything else is the same number on real oem. Except for number "1" which is the pressure plate. But like I said I think it is miss labeled and really it should be the friction plate.
Anyone know if a 22 splined friction plate will fit in a pressure plate ment for a 10 spline?
Without having both I can't tell if the only difference is spline count.
i know for sure the early ones have the 10 spline. The 6 speeds use the 22 spline, not sure about the later 5 speeds. The 6 speeds also use a different flywheel then the early cars and the pressure plate from the early ones does not fit it.
