I pulled the front bumper off and among other things want to paint over the repairs I did last year. My car is 668 Jet Black and the front lower bumper is flat/semi-flat black. I was looking at someone called Automotive Touch up for the 668 paint. They recommended Bondo brand 'bumper paint'. Will that work or is there a better paint for the lower bumper? Thanks Grady
Norton makes a flat schutz type paint for this purpose. Available at auto paint supply , maybe some parts stores as well.

If you have a paint gun and compressor, just paint the whole bumper 668. That's what i did. Even my trim strips and plate mount. Looks much better than the matte in my opinion.

Only thing i did in matte was my grille in the bottom...then 3 coats clear for a slight shine and protection.

I painted my grills black with Pep boys spray paint D100. 3 coats of clear buff and shine. I got a lot o compliments at Bimmerfest for how good they came out. I have to say I did ok job. I took them apart and even painted the slots. Hand buffed each top slot for that mirror shine.

Thanks fellas!!...The reason I painted them to begin with was because they got loose from broken clips. I bought some JB weld to fix the wing clips and it worked.....I was planning on buying Gloss black grills from Ebay to make it easy but I heard they aren't tight.. the other reason was the diameter of the outer trims would be off and I didn't want marks on the hood to be exposed where there shouldn't be.... 95-98 grills with flat slots have a smaller diameter trim while the 99-01 grills with curved slots have a wider diameter trim.. god knows how wide Chinese aftermarket grills are?.....so painting oem grills made sense to keep all I had

LOL - I picked up a used bumper today (and other bits) and started ask about painting suggestions (as it needs to be sanded and repainted) and found my prior question and your answers.

Front, I tapped a guy who stopped too fast and the plastic has slowly been flaking off. Got a now 2x recycled front (my first 750 part off a tarted-up 740) plus a license plate holder, a plate delete panel and a couple of grills. I wasn't looking but I think they had a good rear bumper on one of the cars. Let me know if you want me to try to grab it.

Any idea how much paint is needed to spray the whole front bumper, either in rattle cans or air spray (pint/quart)? My paint is pretty tired so I'm thinking that a color match can(s) might work. Plus while I have a compressor and cheap gun, I'm no hand at spraying cars... maybe time to learn.
And was the PepBoy's D100 mentioned above matte paint (can't find it on their website tonight)?
Finally got around to the bumper. Primed it in black followed by 2 coats/cans of Dupli-Color D100. But the finish is rather mottled with patches of gloss and a semi/flat finish. Is that typical and ready for clear? Or does it need more color? Thanks.
Very unhappy with the d100 paint. 3 cans @ $8 per and a can of clear and the finish isn't smooth or glossy and sure doesn't match the the factory 'look' (the color is fine) nor does it look like cazal's. I bought the paint at 2 different stores but all 3 cans (well shaken) started to spray OK but then developed a little "miss" in the spray so the result was uneven. I'm guessing that is the problem. I'll probably try some hardware store black and it that doesn't work, get out my sprayer.
If the color is try wet sanding then clear again and final wet sand and buff.....
