Hey guys,
I know the 4 & 6 cyl front bumpers are interchangeable. What about fog lights? Are they the same? Or does the 6 cyl bumper have different ones?
if they are different, are connectors the same? Or do I need adapters? I will leave my car tomorrow morning in the body shop for a front bumper and hood respray and im still undecided on putting a new 6 cyl bumper on my 4 cyl or fixing the one I currently have...Help!

I had read this post a while ago, but didnt remember. So looks like fogs will swap, just need new plastic covers? Thanks Vintage
The 4 cyl fog light has a plastic cover beside it to fill the remainder of the opening. The 6 cyl opening is smaller and is completely filled by the fog light. Here are the two bumper covers:

As for whether the fog lights are the same, I think so. I think the fog lights for the 4 cyl, the 6 cyl, and the 5-er are the same:

Does your 6-cyl bumper look like the picture on the right in Post #4? It does not look like the openings in that bumper have the space and mounting holes for both a fog light and an adjacent plastic cover.
Yet, I do see a cover (No. 12) on the RealOEM page for the 6-cyl bumper here:

But since the fog light is the same, the 6-cyl cover must be a bigger than the 4-cyl, to fill the wider opening.

The 6-cylinder has a cover, but it is smaller than the 4-cylinder cover.

The center lower opening is wider on the 6's, I'm not sure either way regarding size - but if the 6cyl fog cover is smaller, I'd imagine that is why

My 2000 is a 2.5L 6 cyl. and it has the covers next to the fog lights. As a matter of fact, I have to order one for the right side as it was missing when I bought the car.

RealOEM lists everything the cars came with, why not just look there?

Pretty informative thread. Realoem only gives you part of the story if you ask me, the other is the member's actual experience in swapping stuff...thanks to all!
Interesting that only the 4-cyl trim piece has a hole in it. That is for the tip of the OBC's temperature sensor in the piece by the driver fog light.

I have both a 4cyl and a 6cyl Z3. Both 100% have caps but of different sizes/shapes. The temp sensor for the 6cyl OBC is located ib the grill opening, while the 4cyl is located alongside the fog light.

My 1997 (10/96) has two sensors. A probe by the foglight senses temperature for the OBC computer display. And a button by the grill senses temperature for the heated windshield washers and mirrors, which was an option. Later, when the 4cyls were gone, the OBC probe was moved to the grill location. Perhaps there was no room for it next to the foglight in the 6cyl bumper.
This shows the two different temperature sensors.

vintage I think we have almost identical cars... Same year, color, engine and production month. Interior?
however, mod-wise you are leagues ahead! Here are the specs of mine..image.jpg
Both are 4-cyls, Hellrot red with Beige interior.
Mine was built on 1996-10-04 with last seven of the VIN being LB77787.
Yours was built on 1996-10-14 with last seven of the VIN being LB78415.
In those ten days, 628 Z3s were built.
Apparently all 4-cyls, as RealOEM does not show a 6-cyl until Jan 1998.

Mine '00 doesn't have fog lights. Do the factory fog lights work well? I have been considering a retrofit vs aftermarket.
Stubbornness is a virtue....
I feel they are decent yes.....nice width.....
if u want something to fit in your oe bumper, they are good enough....but mine are not wired to be used along w/ brights at same time...Id guess as per oem wiring
