Just downloaded arp stud instructions and the max torque is 75 vs 85? Anyone know what that is about?

Probably reflecting the fact that ARP studs use a fine thread for the nut, so the torque needed to achieve a given clamping force is less.

TRADEDGY! The machine shop cracked my head! I just got done torqueing down the last step of the cut-ring gasket and was about to start installing the cams when I noticed the upper casting that flares out to support the valve cover is cracked the entire length of the head. At first I noticed gouges in the valve cover surface where it is quite obvious the machine shop used two bars to clamp the head down and must have tightened them down way too tight. The upper web is bent down far enough where it isn't even flush with the valve cover surface any more. Im completely deflated, I have so much to do in building an entire racecar on top of making a turbo system from scratch and having the engine buttoned up was very important at this stage. Its obvious I will be making the machine shop pay for a new head, but can I reuse the cut-ring gasket and spacer? I guess shame on me for not inspecting the head more closely after I got it back

Well that well and truly sucks!! I hope they are stand up about this. I've had issues with a reputable machine shop before not following my instructions after stating that they would. They compensated me for the unusable item and a bit for my time.

I have only dealt with them once before and they are very nice people and I hope that carries over to help resolve a problem (but when money is involve peoples REAL colors are shown). I cant image they have a leg to stand on, because to me there is only one way to bend that wing down and that is to apply pressure from the top, which they did. I remember reading a thread on here about someone who had to remove a head due to the machine shop switching the cams and they removed the head and were asking about reusing the cut-ring gasket. I will email CES and see what they say.

I probably have a used head if you need one. Don't think I have any refreshed heads.

    Ripped the old lump out.
    KEN_0247.JPG

I purchased the car with a bad clutch, but all I needed was the clutch to last pulling it on and off the trailer going to and from the cage shop. The throw-out bearing literally died as I pulled in my garage, lol.

    KEN_0246.JPG

I ordered a EFR 8374 six weeks ago and am still waiting. In the meantime I have been thinking about the clutch. I have a JBR flywheel that uses stock fitment M3 clutch. So if I get this FX stage 4 clutch that is suppose to work on stock flywheel, it should work right?

Hillclimb Racecar turbo E36 M3 Build

Im clocking the turbo and wondering if it is possible to go over the subframe. I see that you can cut off the outlet barb to make use of the integrated 2.5" v-band which would gain a good 1 1/4" of clearance. I found this tight radius cast elbow which looks like maybe....just maybe it would fit up under the manifold and clear the IWG actuator.
The mount design would need to be spot on to clear the bypass valve housing. The only way i see it working is if the top motor mount stud is replaced with a counter sunk cap screw to clear the bypass valve.

I was in a similar situation. CES will recommend that you NOT reuse the head gasket. I ended up purchasing another one from CES after the machine shop screwed it up.

8374 EFR w/ iwg over the subframe. This was just a test fit as the motor mount is just tack welded for now, but it seems as if everything fits...barely.

I had to cut off the compressor outlet and will need to weld on a elbow. I guess I will need to weld a 10-12" pipe onto the below also since there is no room for a v-band and a silicone coupler wont survive under there.

I had the make a custom motor mount and modify my AKG motor mount. Id like to take this moment to that AKG for the sponsorship as well

Had to offset the wastegate actuator bracket to clear the elbow that will be welded onto the outlet. The wastegate actuator shaft will be shortened by about an 1.25" also. The actuators are available is shorter lengths and I was just going to exchange it, but Im sick of trying to get ahold of FULL RACE.

Will have to retap the boost reference barb to the other side of the housing

Will have to dent in frame rail a tad.

As of now the oil outlet is probably 15 degrees from being perfectly vertical. I can get it vertical but I will need to tweak my IWG bracket a bit.

While your in there I would make a small heat shield to go under the manifold. It looks like the coupler that will go on the compressor outlet is going to get pretty toasty being that close to the manifold. Cage looks really nice!

Thanks, Mark McMahon did the cage. I actually was editing the post while you wrote the comment about the heat shield and the coupler. I just assumed the coupler would not work at all and I would need a pipe welded onto the elbow making installing the turbo with a long pipe sticking out of it a night mare. If a heat shield would actually prevent the coupler from melting I would much rather do that than make the turbo 5 feet long, lol.

You can heat wrap manifold, buy high temp/reinforced silicone coupler(heat wrap it also), and then install on 90 degree elbow. I'm running similar setup to you with no problems after two years. Scroll down and refer to pics on my build.

I hope my oil drain works. The outlet is perfectly vertical and only has a drop of about 2" to the oil pan drain. It needs more than a 45 but less than a 90 so maybe ill try a 60 degree an fitting at the turbo. I went out of my way to orient the turbo perfectly vertical in the car when i probably should have had it tilted 15-20 degrees(within spec). I can only adjust it 2-3 degrees right now because of the wastegate actuator bracket that i had the cut and reweld. In order for me to rotate the turbo any more than 3 deg i need to recut and weld the wastegate actuator bracket

    ready8374-EFR.jpg
This is how CES had the turbo clocked in one of their threads. It is on such an angle they didnt need any elbow coming out of the turbo.

I decided to weld a 10" tube on the compressor elbow so there wont be any silicone couplers under there. Im still going to make a heat shield to separate the turbo and manifold.

Damn, the -an fitting I had welded onto the oil pan was a 8an instead of a 10an. Guess the pan is coming off.

just use an AN10 hose with an AN8 hose end.
