Very hard to measure accurately. It's definitely the least clearance dead center. I came up with 28.5mm by centering a large diameter bolt in the hole and then measuring which thread was flush. My sensor flange to end depth is 27.64mm so it seems correct to me. It sounds like spec clearance is around 1mm. You can't really fit a digital caliper in there at the right angle without pulling the oil filter housing.

Thank you, I'll pass this on. We're testing the sensor with a trigger wheel chucked in a lathe.

Makes sense, especially if the stock DME can't run the engine without it. I thought maybe you were trying to adapt a different part

is the problem trying to use the obd2 sensors? does that mean ppl have to convert to obd1 to use megsquirt?

We've got a stock OBD2 sensor and a trigger wheel being tested in a lathe to determine what circuit is best to read it. We wanted to make sure we're using a realistic sensor gap range as the sensor output changes with gap distance.

All this chatter is looking promising. Hope we can get these before the season next year.

Have you guys dealt with the crank sensor yet? I have a fidanza flywheel so I could stick a scope on that sensor to make sure it behaves the way a stock one does. I'm thinking the easiest way is to crack the dme open and hook onto the pins that go to the pcb. This of course would require me to figure out my USB scope that I haven't touched in 10 years.

The crank sensor is a standard Hall effect.

    We patiently waiting 4yrs 1mth 2dys now.
and we still excited. No we don’t want VEMS, RKTUNES, TRM, 22RPD or any other stand alone....... We want MEGASQUIRT! We love MEGAQUIRTERS!!!!
Please get this done so we can PlugnPlay and get MegaSquirted!
Thanks Matt Kramer, we appreciate the time and effort and we still patiently waiting on OBD2 MegaSquirt while OBD1 MegaSquirting all over the highways.
    THE TIME DRAWS NEAR!

Crank sensor should be easy as its a Hall effect sensor like already mentioned. Nothing special about it and should be easy to get a good signal on.

The OEM cam sensor is the one thats weird.

does this mean nobody has gotten the ob2 sensors to work with MS?
or is this just a super low priority for them?

We got it working but the cam sensor was the challenge.

    How to turbo your car:
Step one. Install ecu and learn to tune and or have it tuned.
Step two. Install injectors and retune.
Step three. Install turbo parts and bits. get it running with out leaks. DO NOT DRIVE IT. Idling should be ok
    Step four. Retune car
    Step five enjoy

I hadn't posted an update because right now the cam circuit prototype looks like this.

    bowl-of-spaghetti-stock-photo_csp52293148.jpg

    Oops, wrong photo.

    cam test.jpg
Still needs a few component values fine-tuned, but it's getting there. I had been waiting until we had either a call for beta testers or a picture of a complete prototype to post up as I figured this might not be the most interesting picture on its own.

Nice! What's your thought on possibly having it done by the end of this year? Thinking of having this as a Christmas present to me from me.

That's what I am hoping for. We are putting a lot of behind the scenes work into it, just didn't really have anything announcement-worthy just yet.

I heard or read something about a front burner getting turned on and us getting slid over to said burner...

Yes, it's in active development and one of our top priorities now. Right now everything is still a bit behind the scenes and not exactly camera ready (see above picture) but I will let you guys know when there's anything useful to report, such as we're opening the group buy or need a test car. We've worked out a good way to check a cam sensor in a lathe right now.

A lot of the circuits we've tried proved too finicky. We ended up buying a junkyard ECU and putting it on an oscilloscope, and found that much of the service information we have about the cam sensor was incorrect - it operated at a lower frequency than what Alddata's copies of BMW's information gave us. We've been using what we've learned on the junkyard ECU to improve our circuit design.

Sorry, no actionable items for you guys yet, just a behind the scenes update. It's not forgotten.

Does this mean that it's easier than you previously thought or that it'll be harder? Really want this over the winter for next year so I can set it up with a digital dash.
