That's saddening. I can get a IQ3 for $600 and the IQ3S for $925. After you factor in the harness you might as well get an AIM MXS OR MXL STRADA. The new MXS digital definitely has the bling factor. Then again, at that price point you may just want a zietronix setup with a bunch of gauges for 3/4 the cost.

    To many decisions

A $50 Amazon Fire 7 tablet is an option, too:

I think i'll go the tablet route, that way I can monitor everything when I want but not cut up my whole interior for guages. I like seeing all these options, the more info the better.

Can you adjust tables using the tablet?

Does this MS use USB or serial port ? I would think USB ? I know I tried the tablet thing with zetronix and it wasn't right. Going from serial to USB caused it to go crazy every now and then. Of course if was always when I was about to log a pull or something.

I'm using the "official" serial to bluetooth adapter:
    http://www.tunerstudio.com/index.php/cablesandbluetooth

It's an Amazon Fire 7 tablet I bought on Black Friday for $33, they sell for $50 normally.

You can adjust tuning parameters and tables from the tablet using the MSDroid app. Here's a rundown of the three main apps that I did earlier in this thread:

MSDroid has full tuning and adjusting functionality. If you want to modify your VE tables or your traction control settings on the fly that's what you use.

ShadowDash is made by the same people that make MegaSquirt's standard tuning software, TunerStudio. You can create dashboards in TunerStudio on your computer and transfer them to your Android device for use in ShadowDash. It can display and log data, but you can't do any tuning or adjustments. It does a good job of integrating the mobile device's sensors (logging GPS position, g-forces, etc.) alongside the ECU data, which is useful for including track maps and g-force gauges in video overlays.

RealDash is a new player in the game and (from what I understand) is based on a mobile gaming graphics package that allows for prettier gauges and dashboards. I only started playing with it last week, but it's focused on being a dashboard replacement in your car, including some cool stuff like integrating GPS/map function with your ECU gauges.
To mount it up I bought a cheap $10 headrest mount and sliced off the ends to fit it into the radio slot. I used a Dremel to drill holes in the plastic under the radio slot and some M5 bolts and nuts to secure it in place. I haven't done an autocross event yet so we'll see how it goes. I may do something else with the mount, I think it's a bit too bulky and one corner tries to hit the tablet's lock button so I had to trim that.

I've posted this a few times but would anyone be interested in a setup like this Running Android 5.1.1 (currently)?

    IMG_20160523_111408380_HDR.jpg

I could make it basically plug and play with only a minor amount of trimming inside the dash where you wont see it and it will not compromise anything. Comes with GPS antenna, hands free bluetooth, 2 USB ports with ~24" long cable in back and 2 front facing micro SD ports standard. Optional: Backup Camera, OBD2 bluetooth (if not using it for the MS then this is an option) and 4g wireless dongle. The unit would come rooted already. If you have a or want to do a MFSW, this can be integrated with mapable buttons as well with additional hardware.

I've had 2 of these units for almost 2 years now and will probably put one in every car I ever buy if I can... They aren't without their glitches but they have not been anything that can't be fixed fairly easily. I love the 3 gauges up top where the radio used to be and the sound quality from this radio is 100x better then the stock unit. It does take some extensive modification to the unit to make it fit into the dash of our cars since there is only about 3" of depth back there but once the modification is done it fits pretty well. The screen has a nice resolution that's much better then any of the big brand units. It would be somewhat comparable to the Parrot units but those are locked down tight so you can't use most of the apps while driving and they cost a lot more.

Anyways it's basically like slapping a tablet on the dash but without some of the complications associated with that. This unit will turn on and off on it's own, there's no battery to worry about in the heat and it's got it's own amplifier and radio built in.

I'd be interested in one for my E31, considering I swapped my old e36 head unit straight over I assume the plug and play wiring would be the same and of course mounting it would be on me. And I plan to run MS down the line.

The mounting options are really what I'm offering. On the E31 it looks like it's pretty straight forward other then the mounting you mentioned doing. Basically I had to cut the unit in half to fit it haha

Oh damn, haha in that case you have a link to the unmodded unit?

I had asked this same option here: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...-Joying-Anyone
Pairing the updated OBC card (OpenOBC project) with an Arduino daughter card and the Joying offers awesome possibilities. My only wish is that the Joying memory could update to 4GB RAM for Virtual Windows 7 and DIS, instead on Windows XP, and DIS. I am considering FI...turbo and preferred to see one screen with all gauges for a clean appearance as well as live data logging presentation. Here is another pairing to aid the data logging possibility and live diagnostic: Also, Chikinhed appeared to be a leader in this endeavor.

It's much better suited to go with a Megasquirt unit, while for real tuning you still want a windows based laptop the android apps for Megasquirt are great for just the day to day gauges or tweaks you may need to make on the road. I actually have a Dual Boot Android/Windows tablet that I plan to use for my normal tuning.

And you can do things like this!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-gPSS90h9M

It doesn't work well with the factory computer because you would still need a separate boost gauge and wideband. The stock computer can't do either of those.

This particular variant will use a serial port, but you can use our USB adapter if you prefer.

    Fixed

That's kind of a bummer. USB->Serial adapters are notoriously flaky. But whatever, still better than any other OBD1 option for me

Long runs of USB cable are very vulnerable to noise - especially if you run them through the engine compartment. And we've found a good source of USB to serial adapters that aren't notoriously flakey - the MS3Pro's built in USB driver is the exact same chipset.

Serial connection is way more reliable and what mist scientific equipment uses. No idea why laptop manufacturers feel its non-essential.

if you do get a serial-> USB converter you need a high quality one thats tested and verified. Most on the market are junk unfortunately.
