Sounds interesting, but last time I signed up for a group buy caused me much sorrow. I'd like to see a finished product first.

Well, I didn't know exactly what he was talking about, but I figured it was something like that. Haha
I just wanted to throw out a vote of confidence for DIYAUTOTUNE and for Matt personally. If they are going to do a project like this, you can count on straight shooting from them. And for what it's worth, Matt is one of the guys who consistently pipes up on the megasquirt forums to give people assistance with their projects. Good dude!
I can agree with that. DIYAUTOTUNE is as legit as it gets.

I'd be interested if I knew anything about tuning. Sadly I know zero ...
How difficult would it be to go from a m50 to m52?
The delimma is my 95 m3 s50 is boosted so I would need the obd1.
But I just recently picked up a 99 M coupe s52 and if I like it more then ill boost that instead and get rid of the m3.
rajicase,
While you are learning about tuning, TunerStudio (the fantastic software you use to tune megasquirt setups) actually has a really great autotune feature that can get your VE table setup pretty darn well. All you need is a wideband in the system, and then setup your table of AFR targets, and go drive around. Eventually you will probably want to make a few fine tweaks, but with the kickass logging and log viewing capability in MegaLogViewer (MLV), that is really easy too. MLV can actually analyze your log compared to your AFR targets table and make changes to your VE table based on that, also. It's very powerful stuff.
Dialing in your spark table is a little bit more difficult, but you can always just stay a little bit over to the safe side. Usually you won't even give up too much power until you can get to the dyno or track to really dial it in.
+1, I have bought many many MS V3.0 kits and parts from DIY and they have always been good to deal with. They have been selling these PNP setups for a long time and they know what they are doing.

Thats the easy part. Honestly its no big deal at all. Like playing a video game.

One or the other will need to be converted. Your S50 will be missing the hole in the side of the block for the OBD2 crank sensor. The S52 in the M coupe can easily be converted to obd1, but I don't know how easy it is to get an obd1 harness into an M coupe.
To answer one concern raised - our M20 MSPNP managed to catch on pretty quickly. There's a lot of good potential targets for future MSPNPs, though, and not quite enough time to make all the MSPNPs we want to try, so we came up with the group buy process to let enthusiasts put an MSPNP for their cars on the front burner. We've also used it to launch MSPNPs where we were unsure if there was a market, but I'm pretty sure an E36 MSPNP will sell better than the one we make for the Ford Probe (which was the first MSPNP launched with a group buy).
I understand, as not all our group buys have managed to get enough people signed up and one did run into a technical snag that has kept it from launching (that would be the one for the ZR1 Corvette). We'll wait to collect money until we have enough people interested to get the ball rolling. But if you don't sign up, once the group buy is over, they'll become a regular production item and you'll be able to pick them up at normal pricing.
The circuit boards and pinouts will be completely different - although as it is there's a fair amount of OBD2 to OBD1 wiring swaps going on to use other tuning solutions.

Yeah I'm keen for this. Is this a full standalone ECU, or some type of piggyback system? (sorry, i haven't really spent much time looking in mega squirts at all)
Also what kind of price are we looking at here?
Problem is I'm in aus, not the states, but I'm sure we could work something out.
Just to echo with others have said diyautotune is as good as it gets for customer support. I've been dealing with them since I bought my first kit in 2008 and service has always been A1. Even when I emailed Matt back and forth regarding building a pnp ms3-pro in 2013 he ALWAYS got back to me the same day, every time! For a man who is on almost every car/ms forum I can think of I give him mad props for answering emails, helping on forums & running diyautotune.
ive emailed Matt no less then 100 times per year.
for the last 3 years
and he always responds
No body should have to talk to me that much.

I bought an $80 soldering iron and built the entire kit from scratch with 0 experience on standalones. Granted it hasn't started yet but that's part of my learning experience and is still a hardware issue in the configuration of the M52 Hall Effect/ Gear Tooth crank sensor (something that a PNP kit would not have!) Dburt gave me a starting point for a base map and I used the VE calculator to get a starting point for a base VE table. The Autotune will hopefully get the rest of the fuel trims right for me. If I can do all that, you can figure out how to use a PNP kit lol.
Also anyone that does go for this should install a double din Android head unit like I did and MSDroid / Shadow Dash. Technically don't need any gauges in the car with that and you can tune from the dash! I can share what modifications I had to do to the unit if anyone in here needs help.
