Thank you sir. The hardest part of the bracket was getting to the nut on the bottom of the master cylinder.

That turned out great! What clutch master cylinder did you end up using?

I went with a new stock replacement BMW unit for now. It seems to be working perfectly (had my son press the clutch in 1st gear while I rotated the output flange = full disengagement with no resistance to rotation) and is the same bore diameter as the 2010 Camaro unit. I plumbed it with AN brake hose so no pressure is lost due to line expansion. The 5th Gen Camaro guys sometimes run into release problems above 6800 rpm with multi-disc units but I'm limited to 6500 rpm and running a LS7 single disc. Honestly ran out of cash for the Tilton unit and the stocker made installing the Hall-effect clutch switch easy as can be. Wired the sensor output into the EWS pin #8 and now the starter wont engage without the clutch pressed.

Dropped the 5th Gen Camaro SS driveshaft off yesterday to have the E39 CV joint welded to the rear section. Hopefully all of this works without issue!

The stock master should work just fine; it has for others. I only went with a Tilton because I found one at a good used price from a Nascar team. Otherwise, I couldn't justify the price for a new one. Looking forward to hearing how you like the TR6060.

Just waiting on the drive shaft to get modified and then I can take it for a ride.

    6-speed!!!

Looks like the TR6060 Swap is a success! Way, way more fun than the 4L80E. For a drag car or big turbo build, Automatic all the way but for a street cruiser the Manual is where it’s at. Now back to the 8.8 Swap, and Steering Angle Sensor and pesky fuel gauge issue....

It's hard to argue against rowing your own gears, even if it's an inferior proposition for the drag strip. I took the former option

Glad the manual swap is a success.

What issues are you having with your steering angle sensor and fuel gauge? I have had issues with both.
My steering angle sensor went out of calibration when I replaced the ABS/DSC unit and my fuel cage never reads above half full even when the tank is completely full.

I’m getting the ABS light (and subsequent ABS shutdown) and the code is referencing the steering angle sensor. I just “relearned” the sensor so we will see what happens... The fuel gauge drops to zero after it gets to approx 1/3 tank. Both sending units are new. Only thing I can figure is that the Quantum 340lph is forcing the jet siphon system to evacuate the drivers side tank too completely relative to the passenger side and the Cluster doesn’t want to average such dissimilar readings.

Im about to just install this and forgo the stock gauge:

How is the driveshaft working for you? I used a 540 DS with the 1330 attached to the nose.
Also, what solution did you use for the front sway bar?

The Driveshaft is a 2010 Camaro SS with the BMW CV joint welded on the back and the carrier bearing mount modified. Its working fine for now but is only temporary until I put in the Ford 8.8 Diff. Swaybar is stock 540i that’s mounted underneath the subframe on custom brackets with 530i M-sport bushings and shells. Pics of the sway at setup should be in the pages above.

Oh, and the original driveshaft with the 4L80E was a 540i with a 1350 weld yoke and slip yoke.

I read post https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...3#post29604523 about the 4L80E shifter. Care to shed any more light on it? I have a 97 528i auto with a turbo 5.3 and 4l80. I left the stock cable and shifter and it runs under the car. havent quite got to hooking it up yet.

In my experience the stock cable just wouldn’t work. It was too short and the E39 shifter detents were in the wrong locations relative to the internal detents of the 4L80E. I tried modifying the mounting position of the cable on the 4L80E lever arm with no success so I built the setup you mentioned above.

    Good luck with your project!

    200k

Car hit 200k miles today. The last 10,000 of which has been under LS power!

Hope this helps motivate some of the new guys swapping their cars.

I’m loving the 8.8 swap. I can’t believe there’s not a kit for this. A lighter unit with tons of aftermarket support is a dream. I’m struggling to find an M5 diff for my 540i. Are the factory axels close to the correct length? I wonder if a CV joint adaptor would work? Same with the driveshaft CV?

    Update:

Took a break from modifying and just enjoyed the car for a few years. Put the hurt on the 540i rear end so it’s time to finally install the Ford 8.8 diff. Just moved across country so once we can get organized and I can get to my tools she goes under the knife again.

    Update continued:

BMW diff was fine, the front bolt that mounts it to the subframe worked its way loose and was allowing the diff to rock back and forth. Tightened it up and its a quiet as can be! So on to the next concern: I've taken a liking to the Corvette C6 Grand Sport and cant get the idea of buying one out of my head. Long and the short of it, the "GMW" might be for sale soon. What are the thoughts as to its value? I'm also considering putting it up on Bring a Trailer.....

    Quick update:

Still got it, still waffling about selling.... Every time I'm ready for the next chapter then I take it for a ride and start second guessing the idea of selling. 14,300 miles and counting under LS power. Had it tuned by DBR Racing in Spring Hill, TN and it runs better than ever. Having oxygen to burn and a excellent tune makes the car just rip.

I know this happens quite a bit. Some people are project people and move on, some do it for the car of their dreams. If I ever get to where you are, there is no way I am selling, literally my dream car. You guys in the states have many more options when it comes to other choices than what we do in Australia. I guess the question is what do you replace it with?
