historically, threads on the subject have been sort of wishy-washy, and it's really hard to find good pictures of these various angel eye bulbs in the daytime. Everyone advertises their bulbs based on wattage which isn't useful and a "10w" bulb can be visibly brighter than a "60w" bulb
i know that some kind of pure LED matrix ring is best (like the Orion V2s) but still, i'd like to know what are the strongest alternatives from team-bulb-replacement

Subscribed. Currently running some off Ebay and they are not very bright.
Yeah I had some and they burned out in about two weeks. Stupid but I kinda like the stock yellows.
ECS had some great ones but then discontinued them last I checked.
I have the WeissLicht sold at BavAuto & Bimmian and they are excellent quality, no error codes and no problems.

fist time hearing about these, $165 is a little up there on price, do you have a photo of them in the daytime?
you mean the ziza's? they seem alright but shiny plastic housing is rather damning to perceived quality
https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E39-54....4L/ES2718025/
interestingly, these guys DO have lumen output as a bullet point (600 lumens) which pretty much nobody else uses
although looking more closely at the WeissLicht common questions tab, they do mention 900 lumens as the output.

The one before the chrome one is what I meant. I hate the chrome ones. Why anyone would do that is beyond me. Instantly ruins the best part of the M5 when you pop the hood.
I like how the one picture example we have in the thread so far is an M-Sport 540i Touring. =)
Subscribed as well..
Last time I looked into this I thought I was set on the 15w Umnitza ICE VXX bulbs. It's amazing how quickly an LED bulb can disappear next to the HID's. I had the PIAA's for a minute but took them out since they just looked so cheap.

I've been thinking about getting these. They look pretty good in the photo (on the photos and videos tab)

I like that they are higher amperage.. or at least say that they are. It is true they will run cooler. That's what we do in the datacenter with servers. BUT what is that extra connector for? An extra power feed to get the additional power? Last time I did something like that (1996 C36 Mercedes) some of the electrical systems got toasted. I am a fan of sticking to the original plugs and isolating the problems, rather than creating additional power loops.

We will be offering our ICE VXX on special in 1 week for Memorial day. To this day, we have tested over 100 different variations of eBay, our suppliers, and various one-off units and found that the current VXX introduced in early 2015 has been "old reliable" and produces a good quality output.

Waking up to ask - anything new on this front? Over two years - electronics are supposed to get better and cheaper over time, right? ;-)

Change question to: Looking for new technology to replace my 15 year old car with outdated technology angel eye bulbs.
Solutions:
- Just change the bulbs - Results in a clean white glow
- Crack them open and replace all the parts with new technology (LOTS of posts on this topic) while keeping the housings only.
- Stay with the off yellow ones that were OE
I use Umnitza ICE bulbs as they are a plug and play and provide a nice clean white glow. Nothing special as the OE Hella technology in the rings has been bypassed years ago.

Some of these plug and play bulbs from other vendors have a REAL short life span and require ballasts to resolve coding triggers (Faults).
I am sure there will be lots of responses as all of this is based on subjective "looks".

I never found a single bulb that was bright enough at a reasonable price point, so I went with some eBay LED rings, as did Philly98540.
They're not nearly this garish in person:

Got an ebay link? What kelvin rating? Looks good!
I've been running these eBay ones for about 3 weeks: https://www.ebay.com/itm/YITAMOTOR-W...72.m2749.l2648
They aren't super bright unfortunately but slightly better than the stock bulbs & white on the plus side.
Here's 2 photos with them installed that I took:
1 - https://www.flickr.com/photos/alexwi...posted-public/
2 - https://www.flickr.com/photos/alexwi...posted-public/
For my fog lights I went with these from the same company: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2xYITAMOTOR...72.m2749.l2649
They've been absolutely great, they always start up white after they've been off for about 5 minutes or so I think, and then you just turn them off and on really quick and then they will switch to yellow / orange. Also I thought the yellow LED would be much less bright than the white LEDs, but surprisingly they are about the same brightness and pretty great as I can choose which colors to run.

These are the ones I bought: https://www.ebay.com/itm/131MM-COB-L...item2367bb964a
They're pretty blue. Probably around 6500-7000 K
Thanks. I love 'em. Installation is not "difficult," but it is fiddly and fairly advanced. Like anything difficult, it's a series of steps one after the other. No special tools other than a soldering iron and heat gun were required, though. I copied how Philly98540 did his here:
https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...0#post29679880
The wires from the rings themselves are glued to the top of my shroud (the center piece behind the lens, but in front of the bulb/reflector assembly and projector) and over to the angel eye ballasts, which were epoxied to the side/back of the OEM headlight. The wires from there were soldered together (because each ring has its own ballast and wires and power source), passed through a hollowed out OEM halogen angel eye, and soldered to a connection from a cheap eBay LED angel eye (the little pigtail that makes the harness plug-n-play). I also ran the bi-xenon shield solenoid signal wire from the high beam bulb splitter into the angel eye.
So yes, surgery, but it really wasn't too difficult. But it's way more involved and time consuming than just replacing a bulb.

Been running Umnitza Ice Vxx for the last year or so. Probably the most reliable and brightest plug-and-play angel eye bulb on the market. Looks very OEM.

I got some admittedly cheap LED bulbs only and they - very surprisingly honestly - have worked for years and years with no issue. They are not super duper bright, which is exactly what I'm lookin for (and lets be honest I'm in the minority there, most people want their stupid AE's to be visible from space while wearing sunglasses to impress all the chicks/dudebros with their awesome AE lights).
I have no idea who or where I got them, but they are NOT fancy items, clearly just the usual Chinese stuff. Always surprised to hear so many problems with those from other people but maybe its cuz I didn't go with 1. ultrabrite 2. ultrablooo.
