    Windows XP IFH-003 fault

    Hi All
    Trying to get an old WIN XP 2002 laptop to work.
    Solved a few teething driver issues but now get the IFH-003 fault and no ignition or battery light.
    Problem is that under device manager/port settings I cannot select FIFO buffer or receive/transmit buffer...
    Any ideas?

    Green circuit board. It worked last time I tried it on another computer.

    1.4 IFH-0003: Data transmission HOST/Interface failed
    Reason 1: In the Ediabas.ini file, the interface is set to STD:OBD. However, you have connected an ADS connector. Solution 1: Modify the interface setting.
    Reason 2: The data transmission failed when sending (e.g. short circuit in the line). Solution 2: Get rid of the short circuit, for example.
    Reason 3: Connector not connected or no power supplied. Solution 3: Check whether the connector is connected and is supplied with power.
    Reason 4: The device manager has been used to disable the FIFO buffer for COM1. Solution 4: In the device manager (Windows XP: Enter “Start” “Control Panel” “System” “Hardware” “Device Manager” Ports (COM & LPT)), and then select COM1 from the ports. Then under the “Port Settings” tab, select “Advanced”. There must be a check-mark by “Use FIFO buffers” and “8” must be selected for the receive buffer and transmit buffer.

    Hi David

    Thank you for your reply and I have seen that quote elsewhere in this forum.
    However as I describe in my first post, I cannot select either FIFO buffer or the Rx/Tx buffer. It is Windows XP SP3.
    Any other settings anybody knows about? I do feel the solution is there in the settings panel somewhere...

    Ok, i just change the driver for the cable, and it gave me differensialen opticians in the device manager. I can select FiFo buffer now, buy not the igjen setting.
    Exactly what driver do i need for Windows XP??

    Wrong language..
    It gave me different options.

    When you run OBDSetup.exe (found in C:\ediabas\hardware\obd) it will tell you if the fifo buffers are set correctly.

    You should use the older FTDI drivers, either 2.10.00 or 2.12.00, which have been taken down from FTDI site. I uploaded them here https://drive.google.com/folderview?...xIRzhYTms#list

    You can edit the FiFo buffers using a registry edit, if you cannot in the driver settings.
    Copy the following into a .txt file, and then save as FiFo.reg (make sure it doesn't show up as FiFo.reg.txt)

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Serial]
    "ErrorControl"=dword:00000000
    "Group"="Extended base"
    "Start"=dword:00000001
    "Tag"=dword:00000001
    "Type"=dword:00000001
    "RxFIFO"=dword:00000008
    "ForceFifoEnable"=dword:00000001
    "PermitShare"=dword:00000000
    "LogFifo"=dword:00000000
    "TxFIFO"=dword:00000008
    Then double click on the reg file and let windows add it to the registry. Restart Windows and FiFo should be correct.

    Ok. I installed the driver in the link and checked the OBD setup as described. All buffer settings are correct however still no joy.
    There must be something I am missing here!!!?!?!?

    Wondering if INPA FAQ document was changed. The version that I have in front of me now (German), says on solution 4: set the receive buffer on its highest setting. Now on my pc this is 14. It doesn't mention the transmit buffer at all.

    It says the same for error IFH-0009.

    P.S.

    Is there a difference in the FiFo buffer settings under Device settings and the Registry? I ask as I thought the registry displayed the hardware device settings.

    Without modifying anything, my Com1 settings are receive buffer 14, transmit buffer 16. While as the same time in the registry under ...\system\serial it has RxFifo 8 and TxFifo 14.

    So something else is going on.

    Do both need to be on 8? Or only under hardware or registry?
