    This is the best kind of restoration that I love, starting with a neglected and abandoned prestige/unique/desirable car and bringing it back to its former glory bit by bit, while still driving it.

    Great documentary and excellent photos of everything too, makes the build thread perfect

    Well! After waiting for a whole freaking week I got my new intake book and intake actuator. I promptly installed them both!

    The results? Intake actuator start test approved!


    The real results were AMAZING. The car pulls much harder and is far more responsive. Word on the street is that a working actuator is worth a lot of horse powers, they were right!



    I hope some of you guys can make it out to 5erWest! I'll be there. You can see the faded paint and torn seats in person.

    The previous owner got in touch with me to see if I wanted two extra keys, brand new dealership keychains, more maintenance documents, the original paper license plate and some other random tid-bits.

    I of course said, yes!

    Ohh Yea! I forgot to mention that I showed him the car! Of course he went nuts looking it over in disbelief. He wanted to know everything I've been doing to it and all my future plans. He made sure to say how happy he was to see the car in the hands of another enthusiast. He also wants me to text him pictures of new parts and the my progress along the way, which I will now that I know will be welcomed.

    I love the fact you've left the paint as it is. Like I said before, it's only original once. As far as the seat goes when you get it redone you'll fall in love with it all over again. The Alcantara headliner and new seat leather were the two best non-mechanical things I've done so far.

    Great that the actuator worked out for you. Regarding the keys, do you have a remote? if so, how many buttons?

    Great photos....you likely have a factory remote keyless entry already installed with a lost fob.

    Its out of this world! SO CLEAN. The owner and his brother have been building it by hand for years. Tons of tiny details that are easy to miss without him going over them all. Also, it started life as a bronzit 528e.

    Two weekends worth of update here: fix power steering leak




    Started out simple enough - stop the annoying leak. It was a few drips per night. Not crazy, but enough to stain my driveway and be obnoxious. I grabbed two different sizes of hose, fresh hydraulic fluid and felt courageous enough to start this messy project!

    Still building courage getting ready to start cutting the original lines. I did this job on my E36 M3 years ago and it wasn't that bad.. I must have had a premonition because both hose sections I bought didn't fit (1/2" and 3/4").

    I couldn't really find any straight info online and tried calling every auto parts place I could unlucky for me it was Saturday night and everyone was shutting down for the weekend. One last trip to Autozone produced another section of 1/2" hose that seemed at least more pliable than what I had on hand. I made it work. Ughh and that means I just fought/forced it on. Not my favorite thing ever but by Sunday night I was at day two and in the end it worked.

    Had a crazy work week and didnt get a spare minute to touch this mess. Turns out it started leaking from another, smaller hose directly off the reservoir. I must have jostled it so much during my wrestling match that I broke it. Not a huge surprise for a 25 year old hose.


    I ended up googling auto parts stores and asking them for bulk power steering hose and got lucky on my first try! An Advanced Auto Parts across town happened to have 5/8" power steering hose! That was the magic size that I couldn't find the weekend prior! Stoked. I brought it home with another new bottle of fluid - bam. I was done in 15 minutes.










    I scrubbed everything down for the last time and let it sit over night before completely reinstalling all of the intake. Didn't leak a drop!
    Anyone looking to replace their power steering hose without buying OEM hoses, look for 5/8" or 16mm.

    It's looking very tidy now!

    Did you get a chance to pop the rear seat bottom out in an attempt to locate the keyless entry module? I'd guess yours is prewired. The remotes can still be located on eBay though I just filed a return for one that was not working properly. That makes me 50/50 on purchasing ones in working order.

    Thanks for the reminder! I'm going to check it out tonight.
    From my research I'll need the remotes and module since all 91's were prewired. I highly doubt I'm just missing the remotes. Do you know what part # I need? I see a full system on ECS for $400 but it looks like it includes a wiring harness. Do you know if I buy it new with just the pieces I need?

    If it's prewired the module is most likely under your rear seat on the driver side. My '93 M5 has it installed top side up so you'd need to take it loose and flip it to access the panel. In my '94 525i Touring it's installed flipped over so the access door is in view. These modules are quite common in '92-95 e34 in parts yards so they're pretty easy to find on the cheap. The ones from E32s should work also. Here's a link to a current eBay auction that seems reasonably priced, I'm not affiliated. I'd be surprised if you don't have one though.
