Yeah, the first time I did control arms, I used a special pry-type puller and I'm pretty sure the neighbors reported a gunshot... Second time, I removed them with the knuckle plate still on the car, and all it took was some moderate whacks from a mini-sledge. Lesson learned.

Haha! No kidding! I used a pry-type puller too (that snapped later on) and it popped that joint out with quite the bang! Mini-sledge is a must!

That's the tool I snapped! It freed one ball joint though.

Was it BMW tool or look alike? What did you break? I did a lot of ball joints with mine, no issues
