so what was OP's car putting down on the Dyno?

So now we know this fits and is good to go hows the performance? Hp gains or just throttle response? Bored out my stock TB a bit,not sure how much but probably just 2mm a while back since i didnt want to mess anything up or get a lean code. Recently created my own MAF housing from a 4" spectre aluminum tubing since i noticed my stock MAF had a giant crack on the side of it (tiny or no air leak). As far as performance i really felt it lit from 2.5k-4k rpm and then thats where the m60b40 manifold kicks in (4k rpm) so it felt goood all the way to redline since the b40 mani moves the powerband to 4k but my mpg dropped about 4mpg and it sometimes bogged or wouldnt respond as quick so i went back to my stock broken MAF housing.
Here is a link describing how I ported and polished my n62 throttle body athttps://www.facebook.com/kenneth.w.w...1602705563083/
I had a Dinan Cold Air Intake laying around in my garage. I got bored the other day and decided to play around with the new E38.
I sourced a throttle body from a E60 550i ($20 shipped LOL), rounded the square edges, then polished it.
I’m only missing the earlier design M60B40 intake manifold with the velocity stacks and the 4” mass air flow meter housing.
The VANOS M62 motor is so weak once pass 5k RPM. Hope this will help a little.
I wanted to try this as well... Can't you use one of these?

Doesn't the M60 manifold help gain power at higher RPMs but lose Torque at lower RPMs?

When I was building my ‘98 740iL to Dinan specs, I bought a MAF housing from those guys. The issue I noticed with the aluminum MAF housing was that it got so hot where you couldn’t lay a finger on it. Does it effect the performance? That I don’t know but there must be a reason other than the cost on why BMW opted for the plastic housing rather than aluminum. So this question came to my mind; Is the N62TU MAF housing bigger that the M62TU MAF housing? Since it uses a much bigger throttle body (85 MM), it is a possibility that it has a bigger MAF housing as well where we can just swap in the M62TU MAF sensor in. However I am not certain yet.
I’m not sure if you lose power with an early M60B40 intake manifold. I read yes answers and no answers.
I think numbers stay pretty similar, but the tq curves are different.
People can argue "Makes no more power, 280tq vs 282tq" for instance, but the 280 might not show up for very long, where 282 can show up from 800rpm <--- extremem examples.
It's my biggest pet peeve with people, "Bro my 2.4L makes 400whp" . . . yeah but only at 5500rpm-5508rpm it's virtually useless.

Ok im going based off reading. I have always wanted to give this a go but it never gave me enough motivation based on the results i have read... My buddy has an e60 550i i will take a look at his MAF housing and compare it to the e38...

Realoem shows the housing for the MAF on the e60 is a part of the air filter box...

So has anyone reviewed this mod yet? Butt dyno or real dyno?

I’ve been looming at this thread for awhile and decided to do this. I’m so sorry but I don’t understand the labels on the wiring conversation diagram.
N62 connector has bl brn w rd pl brn/rd for a total of 6 wires.
Could you please tell me what colors each of these should solder to on the M62TU throttle body harness?
Well done on the conversion! I'm actually looking at doing the opposite. I have an 08 750Li E66 with the N62TB drive by wire. Its my only frustration on the
car- It has a lag-surge on acceleration and I have not been able to fix it with computer updates etc...
I'd actually like to convert to a drive by cable set up like the 94-98 E38s have. Do you think this is possible? The goal is not necessarily more performance, but
smooth, linear acceleration.
Not a chance - if you have lag you have a problem that needs rectifying first - and strangely the most likely cause is the gearbox which is known to cause these kind of problems. I have the same engine in my 650i and it is lightning-quick on acceleration, but is was quite sluggish until I had the gearbox fluid, filter and seals replaced....

Can you please tell me what colors on the N62 to connect to which color wires on the M62tu? I’m not smart enough to figure out your wiring chart, sorry to bother you
Does the flange between the tb and manifold need to be expanded for the n62 tb when doing this conversion?
