Well peeps in the quest for speed on the cheap. I already had installed a late m60 intake manifold 3-3/4 maf housing and a custom intake similar in design to the the one that AFE offers except I have a larger velocity stack inside the cone filter. I spent a grand to have the car tuned on the dyno with tuning done by Active Autowerkes. The last piece of the puzzle was the thottle body so instead of giving Dinan almost a grand I ordered an N62 4.8l thottle body. I ported and polished it before installing it.The only hassle was getting the connector from harness to convert the connector to the new throttle body I have the conversion wiring chart and will post it.athrotlebody.jpg
Here is the wiring chart to convert from M62tu wiring to the N62 connector.

Have at it peeps. This throttle body is 4mm bigger than the stock one. I have been running mine for over a week with no codes.
Wow, that's a real good info right here, thanks for sharing this with us

Your current situation is not your final destination
Awesome info, thank you! So to clarify on the diagram.... is one supposed to depin the factory connector and repin in the order the E60 connector is or are we to cut & splice per color? Also, what part number did you end up going with for the N62... last digits 627 or 308?
Thanks again!
The last 3 on the throttlebody p/n is 308. Do not try to depin new connector I actually spliced the m62 tu wiring to the connector wiring for the e66 connector. It is easy to orientate the wires. the top 3 pins are even from left to right 6,4,2 and 5,3,1 on the bottom pins of the e66 harness connector. I orientated the plug wiring then labeled each wire one at a time with the right color wire to be spliced on the m62tu wiring. It is best to soldier each wire or use can use butt connectors if done right.

A new N62 4.8L throttle body can be bought brand new for $250. To get the most out of if blend the front lip in front of the throttle plate with a dremel tool and sand paper roll and also roll back the front lip and blend as well. Then use 400, 600, 800 then 1000 grit sand paper to get a smooth surfaced followed by polishing with aluminum polish keep in mind to get the most out of the throttlebody you need, M60 manifold, cold air intake and 4" MAF housing. MAF housings are cheap from MRP on Ebay for $100 make sure to order one with a screen. DUDMD can hook you up with a tune for about $350 he is up in the Seattle WA area and has new website that is up and running and can also be found on facebook.
This is awesome. I wonder how this would go on the M60B40?

Might have some trouble there as these are electronic throttle bodies... trying to adapt it to a cable driven M60 probably wouldn't be worth the time or money. Better idea is to get an M62B44 (non TU) throttle body, as it's larger and does not have any restrictors, then perhaps try and get it bored out a little bit more - might need a bigger throttle plate then, not sure.
This is great info! Thanks!
Did you have to open up the plastic flange on the intake manifold, or was it already big enough?
Nice. I have the N62 TB sitting in my garage waiting for this mod.
What intake did you use? I had the E39 intake on my old blue E38 and it worked with a little trimming. Is there another option out there?

AFE doesn't make one for the E38. Their E39 540 intake will work with some minor trimming.

The throttlebody bolts right up to the manifold. Yes the AFE intake is for an e39 and with a little trimming fits the e38. I used ThermoTec heat barrier to insulate my metal MAF housing and the rest of my intake.

I used a Cosmo Racing heat shield. I got the 6" base cone filter and 10" in length from Spectre Racing and has a velocity stack inside of the filter. I trimmed the heat shield to fit the 4" base of the velocity stack. I wrapped the whole thing in Thermo Tec to keep it insulated from radiator heat and it works verified it with my torque app.

I want to make sure I put out the right information the original throttle body ends in 03 the n62 throttle body for the 06-08 750 that I used ends in 04z

On the old m60b40 just send your throttle body to a called max bore he can bore your existing cable throttle body.
Can you tell me please whats the size difference between m62 and n62 throttle body?
Gj job again Bro!

The internal diameter for the 003 stock throttlebody is 78mm. I cross referenced a chart on the VDO website the maker of the stock throttle body looking for one of similar specs but with a big ID at the throttle plate. It turns out that the e66 750 thottle body for the 4.8l N62 was almost exactly the same except the ID at the throttle plate is 4mm bigger and is the same diameter as the Dinan throttle body. Main difference is that the Dinan is plug and play and my throttle body took about 15 minutes slicing my existing wiring to work with the e66 connector which is easy enough to do. A new e66 throttlebody is around $250 and Dinan's is $900 plus. I also removed the small lip in front of the throttle plate and rolled the lip on the front of the throttlebody to improve flow and then got rid of any other sharp edges that would disrupt flow and polished it after wards.

Send your throttle body to Max Bore he does ole skool cable throttle bodies.

Send your thottle body to max bore he does ole skool cable actuated throttle bodies for a couple a hundred bucks.
My Dinan TB is 85mm INSIDE Diameter At the mouth without any modifications
2000 740i Sport
That's funny because the DINAN TB only measures 82.5mm according to their website.

Yeah, as I recall the hole through the plastic plate the TB mounts to is not as big as the hole through this TB. It must be trimmed by a couple mm to match up.

Not exactly the answer sought.

85mm at the max opening might be true.
It may just be a matter of using the TB plate from the non-TU intake manifold. There is a plastic plate the goes between the TB and the manifold (it's bolted to the manifold). I would assume it's larger than the plate used on the TU manifold, but that's just a guess.
As for the measurement of the TB opening, it doesn't matter what the measurement is at the mouth. The only measurement that counts is the throttle plate. You are only going to flow as much air as the smallest opening allows. So the real question is, what does the throttle plate on an OEM M62TU, N62 and DINAN TB measure? I can answer for the M62TU and N62 TB, but I don't have the answer for the DINAN TB.
1354 7 535 308-02 N62 TB
408.238/426/001 M62TU TB
Both TB plates stacked on top of each other. M62TU on top, N62 on bottom
Unfortunately I couldn't find my dial calipers, so the ruler was as scientific as I could get. Based on these measurements I'm gonna say that the N62 TB is the same as the DINAN TB because it's safe to say the measurement on DINAN's website is based on the TB plate (which is should be).
N62 TB's can be had for dirt cheap. I paid $60 for mine shipped with the connector harness. So $60 or $900+ for a little D engraved on the plate. Your choice.
OP, thanks again for putting up that wiring conversion chart. I'm gonna try swapping out my TB's this weekend, shouldn't take me but 30 minutes now with you info.

According to Vdo website the stock 03 throttle body is 78mm at the throttle plate. The N62 4.8L 750 throttle body measure 82mm at the throttle plate. The get more flow on mine i removed the lip in front of the throttle plate and blended the surface. I also reworked the front lip at the front removing most of it then blending that surface for a smooth transition. I did with a dremel tool some cartridge rolls for the heavy work then finishing by hand starting with 200 grit and working up to 1000 grit. Then finished with aluminum polish by hand. Yes according to Dinan's own website his tb measure 82mm at the throttle plate.
