This one has a bunch of us stumped.
i had a to take apart most of the top part of the engine last year to fix a coolant leak. I also decided to replace all the hoses in the front and back of the engine. also did the valley pan gaskets too. Since i had the fan and belts off i decided to replace the crankshaft sensors, both of them. Now we've put the car all back together and went to start the car . Its wont start. The starter cranks and it sputter occasionally but wont turn over. The car started before i started all the work. The car did sit for almost 8 months and the batteries had drained once over that time. Here are the things we've tried so far with Advice from the great Wuffer. Check fuel pumps... replaced the links in the trunk... check fuses... check that fuel is going to the rails... checked for spark... I've retraced my steps as well as the other 8 guru cdnalpina and we are stumped. We are wondering if it might be one of the new crankshaft sensors since that is the one new part but i want to see if it it could be
something else before i change those again. Any suggestions?

Need 3 things for it to start spark fuel and compression. I would say you have compression and spark but you do not know if you have fuel past injectors. If you pulled plug grounded it and saw a nice blue spark while cranking.
I would use a VOM on the CPS's and double check they are plugged into the correct position. I would also look for and loose metal items that might have stuck to the crank cps's

Most likely you have the CPS and the cylinder ID sensor wires mixed up (the 4 plugs underneath the oil filler on the front of the motor).

Also, try pulling the fuse from the DWA module in the passenger side door sill. Dead batteries could have caused the module to lose its mind. That being said, TxGR8White's idea is also very possible!

Page 11 details the correct connections. (Section 12-14/1)
If those are correct and it still don't start, Wuffer's comment about the DWA fuse is your next step forward.

Here is a picture of the wiring routing.

In regard to the 4 connectors, it is very well possible that the plugs are not in the correct position to begin with. I had this on my car way back when. You would be best served to verify where the wire go on the harness end. IIRC, the center two at the harness are for CPS - the wire closest to the driver side goes to the bank 1 CPS, the other one is for bank 2. I will see if I can get a pic later this evening.

We have the greatest minds in 8erdom chiming in.
I did check the wires with the manualtwice to see if they were mixed up. They were correct.

Is the DWA fuse near the DWA or under the hood or in the boot?
also are the cps cables the same length ? Ie 2 dirrerent part numbers.
my new CPS are identical
Thanks Taylor.

Yup, had a text and voice long distance diagnostics! 8-)Will try that next. You must have told that to Rob today.

Just saw your thread and was wondering if the crank sensor and cam sensor is from the dealer?
I didn't understand if you had a spark or not.. If you don't, check your clearance between harmonic balanced and crank sensors..

Do you have access to a code reader? It might give you and us some more clues lol
I do have spark. I've had it hooked up to the laptop as well with nothing out of the ordinary. It was throwing an o2 sensor code but i had that before this issue. i cleared it an it hasnt come back. This is why we are stumped but I'll see what happens after i check what Tom mentioned.

Do you know what is the fuel pressure you have at the rails?
