To answer for all of you asking "how to?"...this is a simple step up....All you have to do is have a set built that will accept the throwing star face...will put you in the neighborhood of ~ $3500 here in the states done properly with faces refinished how ever you'd like. I just had a set of BBS stepped up in a similar fashion.

I believe they are actually original throwing stars centres that have been cut out of the original wheels then material is added around the edge to accept the bolts - then its a case of assembling with required size barrels and lips - Mine have been stepped up to 19" but you can do 18" too.
The guys that built can also do the same with any other wheels e.g style 32 (which look amazing too) - generally speaking you're usually looking at a 2" step up from the original wheel diameter due to the added material.

I do hope these are E34 wheels being modified.
What "thumbs up" really means
I wasn't happy with the original rear wheel size and offset as the wheel poke was far too aggressive which meant running a narrow stretched tyre, so I had the wheels rebuilt and aimed for a similar look to E31 Alpinas (10.5" et 20) or E31 Mk1's (11" ET21)
I sourced new lips and barrels which would take the specs from 10X19" ET -2 --> 10.5X19 ET17 which would put the outer lip in between where the Alpinas and the Mk1's sit. The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that the drivers side sits out 10mm further that the passenger side - I'm hoping that someone can shed some light on why this is...
That does look odd...something not quite right there?

whatever it is, its definitely not the wheels themselves. The alignment has been checked too.
Where does one commission a set to be made? Been in touch with a couple that turn out to not even be reliable on providing an estimate. Dying for a set of 3 piece with turbines.
I used an outfit called CR customs in Poland - unfortunately I dont think I'd really recommend using them, for a few reasons.
Another member here - Widzia - has also used them with similar results, but he says he has found a different company in Latvia and better results.
Hmm. I have heard of this company before, also some varying reviews. I was looking to do something similar (Alpina B10 "18 wheels 3 piece conversion) but I still haven't found a place I trust enough to carry out such a job.

I also wonder if a cast or even forged face is strong in the right places to be converted into 3 piece. People seem to do it often enough, but there isn't any real data on it.
The guy I had contacted had a shop in California make new wheels with faces that will mate with the covers, which seemed like the best option. He never got back to me though.

Maybe that's the way they're supposed to be, but it looks to me like the left side wheels are on the right side of the car and vice versa
