It really is a lovely car. I'm not boasting. I rarely speak about any nice things I have in my life. I just want to share the ever boosting love that Maximum PSI exudes. It's infectious and should be. I wish you all to have some maxpsi in your life.

For the first 10 or so seconds of warm up, the car runs rich and backfires on decel/throttle blip. Barks a reminder to the driver that you're about to embark on a wild ride, so be careful.

Yeah, the E 36 guys actually woke me up to the fact that the 46 M3's are getting pretty reasonable... The reason why I'm also looking into this kit on this car... Videos More videos

trying not to thread jack, but thought i might ask a question to someone who has experienced both e36 and e46 turbo..

why is everyone thinking about moving away from the e36 and going e46 turbo? is it because the age of the e36 and constant upgrades it needs, or is it just chassis related?

also i've heard you can get more torque out of the s52 turbo but please correct me if i'm wrong..

It's just preference. The E46 M3 can fit bigger tires, has a much better engine, transmission, and rear end. However modding is much more expensive than the E36 and tuning isn't as prevalent.

it's a canadian car, so it would need alot.. cluster, inspection and everything.. that's why they sell it, the owner is moving to USA and don't want to deal with that...

I'm not sure about the torque curve. My car is not an apples to apples comparison, but: The ti (on 93) has 325wtq and 4500 RPM and the M3 (on 93) has 330wtq at 4000 RPM. However, the S54 stays there while the ti his 425wtq at 5500. Having driven a lighter 318ti chassis, built 3.0L (8.5 compression ratio) chassis with ~500whp and a heavier e46 m3, stock 3.2L (11.5 compression ratio) with ~500whp.. I would take the ti. Hands down, actually. It's more fun. The ti can scare the crap out of me if I let it.

That said.. A 670 whp e46 m3 is equally as scary. My ti has 425wtq whereas the m3 peaks at 540. As others have said, the platform is better, and it handles more predictably. It doesn't seem to step out on me like the ti. It just goes like a bat out of hell.

The shorter wheelbase and lightweight of the Ti make it feel faster as well. That being said, a Ti is more of an e30 comparison than an e36. Having owned e30s, my Ti with Mcoupe suspension, and a 98 m3, the e36 m3 is a much more predictable car due to it's rear suspension. The e46 m3 is better in every aspect over an e36 m3, and it's not hard to get them to e36 m3 weight with a bit of mild weight reduction.

The s54 drives completely different than an s50/2 though, especially when turbo'd. The s50/2 may feel more fun down low due to the lighter weight and earlier spool characteristics, but the s54 has 1,000 rpms more powerband, better throttle response and has awesome gearing from the factory.

After driving the 2 Max PSI turbo e46 m3s we built for Frank Ocean at Castros years back, I will say, that with the KW V3 coil overs, grippy Nitto NT01 tires, Stoptech big brakes and 500whp on pump gas, they were 2 of the best cars I had ever driven. A properly set-up turbo e36 m3 simply feels older than a similarly set-up turbo e46 m3.

A few people commenting doesn't mean everyone is thinking about moving to the E46 M3.
    Just sayin'

I'm sure this car/kit is great,
but like any guy walking through the grocery store during the weekdays
who spots a hard soccer built mom
    and thinks
"maybe it's better than the one I ride."

    Don't be fooled.

    Super Jelly...

Everyone meaning me? Butters talked me out of it... It's his fault, ground him...

Until this popes up... I was thinking MaxPsi e46 or 335 Dinan stage3... very different cars but this is basically My dream car as a kid with a turbo, very tempted to fly up ther and drive it back if it's still around in a couple weeks

The best of all worlds is e36 s54 swap. The e46 m3's rear subframe might as well be made of tin can scrap . If you need more tire add flared fenders, or a thin body kit.

The s54 is a great motor, but make sure rod bearings have been replaced recently, and vanos issues also addressed. Not a cheap motor if things go wrong.

I have a solution.... S54 M coupe, best of both worlds but costs just as much as buying both gen M3's.

Isn't an M Coupe just a glorified premix between my wife's convertible and an E30?
