hey guys, I just got back from taking my 328is on a nice sprited drive on I-95 and I noticed something strange. When I was in 5th gear going between 80-90mph, sometimes the rpms would surge up. This would happen when I would floor it, full throttle. I'd be running at about 3700 rpms and then floor it and the rpms would race up about 300-400 rpms but the car wasn't accelerating. I thought maybe the clutch was slipping, but it only surges when in fifth gear going between 80-90mph. Now I know I shouldn't be driving this fast, but I was and I noticed this problem. What do you guys think it is??? Thanks

Sounds like a bad clutch to me, but 55k miles is a bit early to be going through a clutch. Mine lasted to 165k miles. Do you spin the tires a lot?

my sister was the previous owner and I know she drove the car easy. So, I imagine it can't be the clutch? I mean how could it be going at only 55k right?? A few other people have emailed me privately and said that their cars also seem to do the same thing. No one knows what the problem is though?? Does anyone have any other ideas?? Like I said the only gear that it seems to slip in is 5th on the highway above 85mph. I can go 85 in 4th and it doesn't seem to slip. Anymore ideas guys???? Thanks

When my clutch was going bad it would slip all over. Much easier when I was in 1st or 2nd. Could it be the ECU?
because like I said, it only seems to slip in 5th above 85mph. Anymore ideas guys???
