I have the skill to do this job, but apparently not the knowledge. I attached my 17 in 3/8 drive to a universal joint and 20 inches of extension. The top nut is in a tight spot and is tilted back towards the engine making it impossible for my setup to seat properly . How do I get this top nut off. Both sides had already separated leaving just the upper "cap" and nut
IIRC...
My standard procedure is to unbolt the mounts from the frame, then lift the engine with mounts still attached to the bracket. Even if the engine is not leaving, it should provide critical access to the top hardware.
Going the other way is slightly trickier because the mounts are installed to the engine bracket first, but need to be precisely oriented/aligned/clocked to the holes in the frame. As the engine is lowered into place, I'm under there checking the alignment and persuading mount studs to go into frame holes.
Wobbly extensions from the top are helpful

Can the left engine mount on an early model 850i be removed without having to disconnect any of the lines that appear to be in the way? I took a quick look while under the car and it did not look easy to do but mounts on my car may be dry-rotted and cracked.
