Wow, that's a huge number for power, you've gotta be pleased by that. Sorry to hear about the car, are you sure you don't want to take a few days to digest this, then pick up a good rolling chassis and just transfer everything over?

I am contemplating all options at this point. Even thought about throwing the motor in an E30 chassis. I have found a rolling chassis (black coupe) for $250 local to me. Going to go look at it this week. Going to look at all options and weigh the best route after the soreness goes away .

Do it for the fun of building an E30, but don't expect the same performance as your E36. Sure it'll be lighter, but the rear suspension on the E30 is such a compromise when compared to the E36. Plus you have a boatload of E36 performance/race parts now and though some of them will transfer over to the E30, not all of them will. Get your hands on a 92 318is (E36) coupe. It'll be the lightest E36 coupe chassis you'll find and all your current parts will transfer over!

On the other hand, I'd love to get my hands on your ITBs and Sunbelts. So ya, go ahead and build an S2000 or something!!

Dang man, sad to hear it. Even sadder I didnt make it out, ended up working on the chumpcar that day with our team.

Any idea on the cause of the accident? Lift at the top of the hill? Oil? Pinch it off?

EDIT: Just saw the video and the comments. Bummer man\

Double Edit: Gotta get back on the horse

And the best news? I ran the VIN and it has the "Smoker Package".

Edumacate me re smoker package? My guess is it a good option by the punctuation and not related to the expensive unhealthy habit.

It was a joke. Pretty sure the "smoker's package" means it had a cigarette lighter and ash tray.

Have you had the old chassis check out yet? See if it can be pulled straight or not?

No. The shock tower "ripped" from the fenders and the control arm mount is also "ripped" from the chassis. It was cheaper to get the shell and start form scratch.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Good luck on the new build. Take some time to recharge before you dig in.

Second frame guy came by today and looked over the car. Got an estimate of $500.00 to pull it straight. Will be taking that option. Still have the shell and will use a few parts from it for this repair. May take some time to detail that shell and send it off for a cage and then move parts over at a later date.

Will have the shock tower stitch welded after getting the frame straight. Also adding a strut tower brace and possibly some bracing on the passenger side front fender.

Donor shell is in the driveway. It's in much better shape than I had originally thought. No rust and zero evidence of ever being in a wreck. The plan is still to fix the other car, using the hood and passenger fender from this shell, then take a few months to clean up this shell, have it caged and painted, and then swap all my parts over to it next summer.

Stopped by the frame shop today and the car is much worse than originally thought. The body is tweaked all the way back to the rear seats (floor pan, transmission tunnel, rockers). I told them to stop trying to straighten it out and will go with the original plan of a shell swap to the new car. This will take quite a bit longer, but I will be much safer in the end.

Got the donor shell down to the bare metal and glass. Pulled 51lbs of wiring and have painted the engine bay so far.

Next steps are to weld in reinforcements on both subframes, RTAB and both shock towers and remove all sound deadening. After that is done, it will go to a cage builder to have a NASA-legal cage installed.
