Would love more information about this. Any tune testing yet? Fitment issues with the 9180? Conparison with precision 64 or 67? Need a tester?

Here are a couple links we posted on our Facebook page a few days ago with some video clips of preliminary testing of the new EFR system. More info to follow...

CES 335 BW IWG EFR turbo kit update...

So after weeks and weeks of road and dyno testing, and with the huge flow of the steedspeed manifold, we have simply overwhelmed the capabilities of the 8374 BW EFR IWG housing to bypass enough boost to keep the turbo from creeping massively even with the WG port wired 100% in the open position. To the likes of at least 18psi by 5700 rpm and still rising.... We have taken the housing off two different times, porting the wg opening each time more and more to try and help with this issue. We were able to bypass quite a bit more air, but we are still seeing boost levels of at least 16 psi by redline with the wg port wired completely open on the dyno and more on the street. After speaking with the BW engineers, and from the data we gave them, it looks like we will not be able to regulate boost levels below the 16-17 psi level using the IWG .92 ar housing on the 8374 turbo, which is a bit too high for our street kit low boost settings we wanted to run. While spool up was spectacular, and very close to oem spool up with small twins which was our initial goal... at this point, and after speaking with Leen at Steedspeed, we have decided to go external wg and run the larger BW 9180 EFR turbo with the 1.45 ar ewg housing to slow things down a bit and allow us to regulate boost pressure better. Much like our Garrett Turbo 4094R kits on the E36's we offer that make similar power levels at low and high boost settings, the 9180 will perform much the same, and with much better boost response than the 4094 with the twinscroll setup for our N54 motor street kits. The manifold is already back at steedspeed for the addition of an external gate flange.

But before we went this route, we decided to do one last test to see what the 8374 EFR spool would actually look like on the 335 if we pushed it to higher boost levels that we eventually want to run. We set boost target around 20 psi... The attached graph shows a wg spring run in red using a 7psi spring in the turbosmart IWG 75 actuator, vs. the blue line run where we hit 19psi before we let out... Look at the torque curve on just WG spring and some evident boost creep.... and almost 300 torque at the wheels at barely 7psi at 3000 rpm...... For the higher boosted run, 19psi was achieved by 3300rpm and 17.4 psi at only 3000 rpm making 403 torque at the wheels, and we weren't even pushing it... This was on 93 octane and 50/50 meth and a base tune. The results are promising and exactly what we were looking for and what Steedspeed was predicting we should see. Once we get the external gated solution worked out so we can regulate boost, then we really can begin tuning! so stay tuned for more updates...

BW 9180 Turbo with new 1.45 ar ewg exhaust housing

And here are a few pics of the new BW 9180 Turbo with the 1.45 a/r ewg exhaust housing. As you can see, it is a much bigger housing than the .92 ar IWG housing used on the 8374. Some pics of side by side comparisons, and the 9180 -middle- next to a precision 67r -left-, and garrett GTX35R -right-

Moving along with this project again finally. Leen is almost finished integrating the external gate on our 335 manifold prototype after we had massive boost creep issues with the BW IWG turbo setup. Once we get the manifold back, we will begin our testing again, and hopefully be able to bypass quite a bit more air...
