CES Motorsport BMW 335 N54 twinscroll steedspeed BW EFR Single Turbo Kit

As many of you know and have been waiting patiently in the group buy, we have been working on a bottom mount twinscroll E36 manifold with Leen at Steedspeed to be released any time now... But while we were doing this, we also have been working on our latest turbo system/systems we will soon be offering for the BMW 135/335 platform, specifically on the N54 motor and eventually the N55. Leen has also designed us a twinscroll, non-gated, bottom mount manifold that we will be using in our N54 kits to accommodate a Borg Warner 8374 or 9180 EFR IWG single turbo to replace the twin setup on the N54 motor, with the goal in mind to be one of the fastest spooling single turbo kits on the market once it is all said and done, much like our E36 steedspeed twinscroll GTX35R car. We plan on offering two different versions. The EFR750 street kit which will have the BW 8374 IWG turbo and be making around 650-700whp, and the EFR1000 race kit, which will be in the 900whp range. The prototype 8374 kit is installed and almost ready for tuning and testing, and we wanted to go ahead and share some pictures of the system.****Please note... this is the prototype version pictured.**** We will be doing some minor changes for the production versions we plan to sell, and there are some revisions already in the works, but for the most part, this is what the EFR750 kit will look like. We will have a couple different tuning options we plan to offer, but we will discuss this in more detail in another post.

CES Custom FMIC Bell Core 3" inlet and outlet piping.

3" to dual 2.5" downpipe connects to OEM flanges.

BW 8374 IWG EFR Turbo with upgraded turbosmart WG actuator.

CES custom solid motor mount. (We may opt for a bushing version of this as well)

Another nice pic of the 3" to dual 2.5" downpipe with bungs for factory rear O2's

Tight fit for the EFR and the 2.5" compressor outlet

Coolant Reservoir relocated to fit a full 4" intake to the turbo and 2.5" to 3" charge piping. Fits nicely by the steedspeed twinscroll manifold.

Full 3" piping to the intake manifold. Relocated coolant reservoir, and Power steering fluid reservoir.

Custom mount for relocated PSF reservoir.

Underside pic of the 4.5" thick x 18" long by 10.1" high Bell intercooler core 3" inlet and outlet.

    IC mounting brackets

    Custom rounded IC end tanks

Big thanks to Leen at Steedspeed for taking some time away from the diesel world to help us gas powered guys make some power! And a special thanks to both Goeff Racer at Full Race and Marty at Turbosmart for supplying the equipment and various brackets and slim profile vband combinations to get this turbo to fit where it needed to be.

I'd buy a 135 to do the same.

I have a 135i that I'm currently looking to upgrade the twins or go big single. I'm leaning more to the big single. As most person with twin have issues. Pure stage 2 or a single kit that can fit on a rhd

Will the production version have heavy stainless charge piping? Or will you switch to aluminum?

With 700+hp, does it really matter how heavy it is compared to aluminum? I imagine the weight would be negligible and it probably costs less, easier to work with, etc....

Probably not, but it's a valid question. For handling purposes, I always like to have the least amount of added weight over the front end.

Stainless piping really isnt very heavy unless you are using 14 gauge. I would not worry. If i was, id have carbon fiber hood and trunk, light wheels, racing seats, etc.

stainless seems unecessry but on the weigh scale of these cars? Difference totally negligle. As you say 10 other things you'd worry about more than diff in charge pipe weight on a 135 or a 335 including AC deletes and every other thing. Suspect the vast N54 modders arent gonna be building stripped out track cars...

Here is some consumer feedback for you.
    1. Don't like the placement of the air filter, it is hot air intake. That turbo will be pulling a lot of air and with closed hood I am sure it will be getting it from the radiator fan.
    2. Don't like that one has to relocate two components for fitment.
    3. 3 inch charge pipes, Maybe 2.75 pipes would fit better and do the same job?
    4. Don't like that intercooler has both inlet and outlet at absolute 90 degree angles. That is not good for the flow.

    1. I don't disagree with you here, maybe have a divider?
    2. I'm sure they wouldn't have it they didn't have to and I'm sure they looked at all the options
    3. Maybe yes, maybe no
    4. If you look at the picture showing it mounted, you'll see that there isn't much option to fit and minimize altering the fog lights/vehicle trim....didn't you say that you prefer to minimize relocation/alterations/fabrication? Maybe not specifically, but seems like that is what you implied. I'm not sure how MUCH flow is impacted, but it looks like it fits perfectly as is.

I really don't see a downside to that lol. I love FL, I'm never moving back north. Only other place I'd go in the US is Cali but I'd be hesitant due to their Nazi vehicle laws and high cost of living.

As for the 90 degree intercooler angle, the stock one has the inlet and outlet sticking straight back in the same routing area as this CES car, just using the actual IC itself instead of the piping.

The whole 90 degree on the intercooler i bet is one of those things that on paper it should be a problem, but i bet it works just fine and a straight through design wouldnt show any gains.

Plus, the rounded end tanks will help that transition

A few pics of the Steedspeed BMW N54 twinscroll bottom mount EFR manifold... This is a non-gated manifold, specifically designed to run with a Borg Warner EFR IWG turbo. This is the second version of the original design which has the O2 sensor bungs relocated to the sides of the collector.

The benefits of this manifold design versus other manifold/turbo kit options out there?

    - It's been designed by Steedspeed...

    - It is a full T4 flanged twinscroll manifold designed to maximize the efficiency of the exhaust charge potential for spooling up the turbo, and to minimize exhaust pulses interfering with one another.

    - The non-gated design allows for maximum, un-interrupted flow through all the runners.

    - It is mated to the fastest spooling IWG turbo on the market for the size we are using.

    - Only one turbo to deal with, that is optioned with three different sized turbine/compressor wheel combinations for whatever power goals you are looking for. BW offers the 8374, 9174, and 9180 versions of the EFR IWG turbo to maximize the versatility and power vs. spool options for the customer. Power output for these turbos ranges from 750 to 1000 hp.

    - It allows for a full 4" inlet pipe from the air filter to feed the turbo, and full 2.5" to 3" charge piping.

    - Eliminates the need or added expense of extra piping, extra wastegates, or dealing with two turbos which makes installation quite simple, and reduces the potential for extra hardware to fail.

    - It's patented design makes it one of the most durable and best flowing manifolds on the market.

    - With such success of our e36 turbo systems with the older Steedspeed manifolds, this was hands down the only manifold we wanted to build our new 335 N54 turbo system off of.
