OEM Motorola car phone - replacement coil cord

Hi guys, my E31 has the OEM motorola car phone. The rubber / plastic coiled cord that attaches the handset to the base is flaking apart, revealing the colored wires within. Does anyone know where to get a replacement cord? I've Googled and looked at eBay, and all I can find are some people parting out the entire phone system, not selling just the cord. A regular household cord is the wrong size. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

I am in the same situation. The phone is in good shape and functional (of course doesn't connect a call) but the cord is in bad shape. Would really appreciate any guidance on where to source a replacement cord. Thank you!

+2 I'm in the same boat.
Did anyone ever find a replacement cord that works for our phones?

My next move would be to try if another chassis BMW car phone from the 90's era (or possibly the mid/late 80's or early 2000's) has a cord that would work or be made to work in our phones. But that is a very costly experiment with unknown results, as even the prices for those phones are even starting to get expensive as well.

    Thoughts?

Do the phone cords use standard connectors?
If so, a replacement cord may not have to come from a car phone - there may be an off-the-shelf replacement

    Good question.
I believe in the console end of the cord there is a standard connector hidden out of sight, but the phone end has an external strain relief, which perhaps has a standard connector inside of the phone. But your thought process has me thinking that it is possible to retrofit a standard pigtail style phone cord to our setup. Next time I'm in my car I'll have a closer look and report back.

So I dissected the phone for us and it looks promising. It’s only one screw to dismantle the handset, so anyone can do it. As assumed, the console end of the cord is your standard phone plug in:

The phone end of the cord also looks promising as the connector used might be an off the shelf part. I’m a little out of the loop on my electronic connectors, but perhaps someone reading this in the industry might recognize the type it is. If necessary I can take measurements to nail down the precise connector needed.

    So I see two options
    1. a pigtail style phone cord with the correct ends
2a. or the pigtail phone cord with a phone jack on both ends, then cut and splice the wires on the handset end to the existing plug
2b. instead of cutting and splicing the wires in (2a) = insert the wires in the existing plug, provided you have the correct insertion/extraction tool and pins to match

    So there’s hope! Thoughts?

Good news that at least one side of a regular phone to handset cable matches up.
For the other cable end, it looks similar to a 10-pin female USB header. If so, they are widely available

On Ebay (Germany) there are usually plenty of old phone horns offered for sale.
