Why not just change the Tstat and be done with it?

I used cardboard to partially block the radiator on my e21 that first winter I had to drive it when I first got it. It was my daily driver, I was in college full time and worked full time, so had no downtown to replace the thermostat. It helped the engine warm up to operating temperature quicker to get through the winter. I eventually changed the thermostat and removed the cardboard during summer break from school when I had time.

Thanks everyone for the info. I was thinking about this today and I was going to post on the thread I believe the thermostat is remaining open.

I checked this thread and that seems to be the general consensus.

Yesterday I was thinking dang that Bmw blue coolant really works!!

I have a new genuine Bmw thermostat coming from one of the online resellers.

Thanks again for the help. I will post back soon hopefully with some very good news.

    Cool

It seems BMW Blue Coolant is quite popular, fcpeuro reviews.

Uhhhhhh no! I just flushed my radiator in order to add BMW coolant following a rebuild and a gallon of BMW Blue coolant was $25 plus tax.

Since this thread got re-hashed I figured I would throw this in. I just bought a bottle of the BMW blue coolant to do the electric water pump on my e92. It says right on the bottle:

I have been using Bmw blue for over a decade in all BMW's (including my e21) with great success. I try to change it every 2 years, but sometime run it for 3 or even 4 and there are no deposits or damage to aluminum parts. I used it with distilled water.
$25 a gallon is not too bad as you end up with 2 gallons since it is a concentrate and is normally mixed 50/50.

    Cool

Water pump Lube with anti rust-lubricates the thermostat as well and is compatible with green or blue (silicate based) and extended life red, orange or yellow (OAT/HOAT based) coolants.. I have a bottle of it.
