E39 2002 High beam fitting size

I had a search around and found that most people are saying the High Beam (face lift version) bulbs are H7 in a 9005 fitting, yes the bulbs are
H7 but as it turns out the fitting is much bigger than a 9005, anyone know what it is?

I think it's a special ...part of the housing.... is it missing?

Not missing I just need to know if it's a standard or BMW special size, I think your right, its probably a BMW special.

Sorry to resurrect the dead, but did you ever figure this out? I am trying to do the same thing. The new high lumen cree leds are amazing.
I thought from in car visual inspection that the BMW adapter was the same as a 9005 so I bought some high power 9005's only to discover the serious size difference.

Sweet, Thank-you so much. That looks like the way to go, since I'm pretty certain no one is going to build a BMW specific bulb. Not to mention the fact that it might be E39 specific. Gotta return these nice 9005's and find a nice easily disassembled H7 .

Scroll to the bottom of the page and look at the N8 Leds, better beam pattern IMO and no need to disassemble
