    Post E38 "Door Open" Error

    Hi guys,

So I am getting this constant error of a door being open when it is not. I can't seem to come to a conclusion on what is causing this error. HELP!!!

    Thanks

    We have 5 BMW's (Cars)
I have the same thing (intermittent). It's the door latch itself.

I have the problem as well. I'm lucky at times when the message doesn't come up. But it's the majority of the time, and it's draining out my battery cause the door open message might be keeping something on.

As mentioned. The door latch assembly needs to be replaced. Had the same thing and a new one fixed it.

Open the drivers door. See the red light that's on? Use something to close the latch manually. Does the light go out? No? You have a problem with the latch/contact switch or wiring.

If it does go out, move to the next door.

' 01 740 here. Im working on my left front door with the "door Open" message and all the issues that come with that. The door latch has a little plastic tab that moves up or down very little and touches the door sensor and tells the car the door is closed. The sensor lives in the latch and has a very little "nipple" where the tab pushes up against. After changing a sensor it still didn't work. After looking at the latch I discovered that little tab and on my latch was loose (no spring tension) so it would never push the little nipple on the sensor. Picked up a latch form the junk yard where the tab had tension, put the sensor and still "door open" message. Im seriously pissed off now and don't know where to go from here. What a pain in the ass it is to take the front latch out since it will not come out unless you take the entire door handle mechanism out of it (door lock key nipple is inserted into latch)>

Reviving an ooolddd thread. Penarol, did you figure out what the problem was after you replaced your latch and the message persisted? I’m in the same boat right now

I had to replace both front door latch assemblies. Took a while to figure out both had failed.
Just keeping it reliable and looking decent.

I have the same problem with the emergency brake. I pull the handle to release it and car thinks it is still engaged. Where is that sensor located?
