Door Seal - looking for aftermarket - genuine BMW too expensive

Hello there, Any of you know where to purchase a non-original equipment door seal? I've looked all over the web and can't find anything but the original equipment one for $270 and up. I have a 1994 325is 2 door and both seals are in pretty bad shape. I've seen ones for newer models for $50 or so. Any after market ones that work, ones for different make/model that fit?

    Here's the part I'm looking for: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/..._pg1.htm#item4

I have never seen aftermarket door seals. Either used or new. What you could try is weatherstrip

Outer door handle gaskets I have new F/S as known here, then you do not have to buy the expensive complete cover with the gasket, gasket alone is originally not available. That means this gasket, not the cover

Never seen any coupe door gaskets for less than $250. Used are almost always going to be in similar condition as yours.

no such thing as aftermarket seals

good ones are dwindling so that's why they're all not inexpensive

Is there something special about these door seals? Why couldn't you just buy one for a bigger car, cut a piece out of it and glue it back together with rubber glue?

They are rather unique to the E36. Pull one and you will see.

The problem is that there are too many variations and that is probably why no aftermarket products are there. Too many different versions, slow moving parts = not good for aftermarket companies, they go for easy to sell wear parts which have faster stock turnover.
On E32 we use some door seals weatherstrips from E34 and E39, I posted that here http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...ips-on-E32-DIY

Best I can find (new) on Google is $310.

In checking, lots of sub $250 listings, but none are accurate. Example -- one showed Turner at $236 but Turner lists it at about $350. Sooo ................

And a correction. Getbmwparts.com lists a 328 coupe left door seal at $292 shipped.

Your best bet is finding one in a partout.. I found almost new condition sedan seals from a member and I just installed them a few days ago. You can usually pick them up much cheaper. Considering you're in Tacoma (unless your profile isn't correct) I don't know if you've checked craigslist... But look for e36 part outs like this (I know it's a convertible) and you'll score. Just make sure that they're in good condition too. The used ones I got are fantastic. Of course that's a different case because I knew both owners of the car so I knew it was pretty much garaged its whole life.

Weather stripping has been some of the most expensive restoration parts for years. I did a first generation F body 30 years ago and even aftermarket seals were expensive.

Gave away my BMWs, driving a VW and an Audi now.

    Thanks all for the replies.

My seals are cracked along much of their length with pieces missing, so I'd be interested in used ones that are in better shape for a decent price. Haven't yet looked for used ones at salvage yard or craigslist part out, but will do that.

That's a good option to use weather strip. May have to go that route.

I'm having the same thoughts. There's only a limited number of ways one of these seals can attach to the car and abut the door. There's got to be another option. Can't find anything on JC whitney. I wonder if there's a website that shows the cut end of door seals...may be able to find something that's close enough.

I'm in the same boat, badly need to replace my driver's door seal but its far too expensive to buy new. I'm concerned that any door seal would be damaged when removing it from a part out vehicle. Anyone have experience with this?

Does it just pull off? I haven't looked very closely but I assume there's a little canyon for it.

You have to pull of the plastic sill plate which you just have to be patient with it.. Just pull it closer to the edge and work your way down. You may break some plastic clips, that's no big deal. Get those online anywhere. Then you literally pull off the door seal. It has a cushy outer part that the door closes onto, and it clamps onto the door with a built in clamp. Just pull it off and it's that simple. You really have to try hard to mess it up lol

    Same principle applies.

Tonight, I just pulled the drivers side seal off from my 325is parts car ('93) and it came off pretty easily. This car had 79k on it when it was totaled by PO. It was stored climate controlled for much of it's life (naval officer stationed overseas). The seal is in awesome condition. My car is a sedan, so I'm gonna be selling the seal and a bunch of other stuff I can't use. I have no idea what the going rate is. I have good A and C pillars, too. That's why I popped in here. I was looking on Panjo for guestimates but I can't seem to get very far before I start clicking on cars for sale and daydreaming. Messing with my ADD.

Anyway, if anyone needs something in particular from a laguna green metallic/tan auto 325is (hey, it has the 4.11 LSD and tilt steering. I've thought about pulling the tilt and putting it in my 325. My wife will kill or divorce me or both though). Anyway, I have to start getting rid of this stuff. I hope there's gonna be some sort of market for it.

I just replaced my gray e32 door seals from a beige donor car. I used RIT dye to dye them gray. It worked exceedingly well, couldn't be happier with the results. Perhaps this will work for you. You could always dye any seal color black. Make sure you get the RIT dye for synthetics.
