    X1 Jack & Spare

My wife has a 2013 X1 and, of course, there is no jack. After replacing the OEM Goodyear run-flats (horrible tire) with regular Continentals, I approached the problem of no jack or spare. I found a 17 inch used wheel on EBay for $150 and then mounted a used 225/50 R17 Continental from an Audi A3 ( 2008 5 door, 2t, a truly great car) that we still have. This was a lot cheaper then the $250 mini spare BMW sells. But the lack of a jack confounded me. The X1 platform (e84) has four plastic jack points similar to the old X3 but with different dimensions so I started looking online and, of course, came across the X1 jack kit for a mear $150. I did not think that a scissors jack with some miscellaneous tools should cost that much but the jack point requires a rectangular metal piece set 90 degrees to the top of the scissors jack that fits right into the plastic jack point. This is what makes the BMW jack kit unique. So more looking on the internet and then I came across on a scissors jack on Amazon with a metal piece on top that rotates for $18 that fit perfectly Yes, it is made in China but it works.

Alas, the original jack kit (71102182448) has been discontinued and I cannot find it anywhere - it's out of stock. And BJBerndahl's pix of his jack is no longer listed on Amazon.I will keep searching for one for my E84.

Hell, you can find pinch weld jacks like that in most junkyards all day long for little to no money.

    Or buy new....

And if you can, I recommend a 12 volt powered impact and one of these.

And of course a few practice runs in the nice clear light of day for the primary driver.

    Bill837,

Thanks for for the lead on the Harbor Freight jack. I wonder if the top of it will fit the jack pad point?

Might, and if not, a visit to any loal welding shop could fix that for less than $50 would be my bet.

The Harbor Freight jack in the link is the one I bought, the top swivel piece fit the X1 jacking location perfectly. I also went to non runflats after having a large hole puncture on a Saturday afternoon, with no runflats available till Monday afternoon. This was 900 miles from my trips destination. I went with a full size spare since the compact spares don't get you much farther than a runflat.

any jack should do. the spare tire is the important part. if you have that you can call roadside assistance if nothing else to lift the car. by if there is no tire there is no go
