It was actually rubbing the pressure plate frame and that isn't used for anything else, so we should be good. All else looks perfect.

I was just going to ask about the fingers/levers on the pressure plate but if it wasn't rubbing on that then I guess you didn't encounter any serious damage.
Anyways, glad you guys found the problem.

So, the starter got the best of us for a bit and in the process made me hit my lip with a large pry bar, but we eventually prevailed and got it installed after cutting the dowel off entirely. We did a test start and the car ran beautifully and shifted great. The clutch engagement was normal. The engine sounds pretty amazing with no exhaust. Now, while I'm at urgent care possibly getting some stitches on my lip, Brian and Asim are getting the driveshaft, exhaust and cabin air boxes reinstalled so when I get back it should be ready to go.

The auto didn't have it, but it could have been missing. It just seemed like the dowel was too big and the starter wouldn't fit on it no way, no how.
