Door lock cylinder removal without key

Yes I have looked using the search function. I had to buy a drivers door handle from a junkyard and it did not come with a key. Is there a way to remove the cylinder from the handle without a key so I can re-key it with my existing cylinder. I've found many explanations on the job if you have the key, but none if you don't. Any help would be appreciated.

OK, there has to be someone who has come up with an answer. There are a zillion responses to questions about ignition cylinders [tumblers]. Someone must have dealt with this problem with a door lock. Please.

I figured out how to do it. If anyone wants the information I'll post it. Thanks for all the help.

I've looked at your website which has a lot of great info. However I am still unable to find the page you reference, even when I use your link. But thanks anyway for the reply.

That's not the link you posted earlier, but I'll try to find it again. I asked about doing it without a key. The no key was the issue. But thanks anyway.

I think there is a roll pin on the back of the tumbler that holds it all together. You drive the roll pin out and the lever arm comes off of the tumbler. Then you can pull the lock cylinder tumbler out the other side.

You must be able to do it without the key. I did the same thing to replace my drivers door handle. I didn't get a key with mine either.

Thanks for the reply. I have already done than and taken pictures of how it was done. I asked at one point if anyone wanted to see the pictures. No response to that. You're right. It was quite simple. Much simpler than the information that has been posted here which says you have to have a key.

Welp, would have been good info for people for reference. Guess I should check every thread 24/7. Missed it by less than 48 hours. Lol.

If I still had my original doors, I'd bug you to write a DIY article. The explanations I read made it sound like kind of a pita. But I figured since it had been 3+ years and I hadn't gotten around to it, I finally tossed them, lock cylinders and all.
    Thank goodness for keyless entry

Hey Curry, could you give me a hint on doing the lock cylinder on a Z3? I don’t want to bother you to post the whole write up, I have the new to me junkyard handle and my old handle, I have the pin drove out of the back, and I can get the lock cylinder to move a little bit, but I still can’t get it out. Was thinking about just drilling and destroying it to get it out. Thanks!

Edited: Nevermind, I gave up and drilled and picked and prodded and I totally destroyed it but I got it out.

Hi there! Are you able to upload pictures regarding your method? I ran into the same situation where I have no key for the replacement cylinder and I need to swap it for my original cylinder. Thank you!

There is a roll pin at the rear of the lock cylinder. With the handle removed from the car it is self evident.

How did you figure out how to remove the key lock core without a key and without destroying the handle?

Nevermind... thanks though. Just went ahead and removed the pin from the junkyard door handle key lock core, popped the key lock core out and then used my cars key, inserted into the key lock core from my cars door handle, that has a broken arm and popped it into the junkyard handle and pushed the pin back in and wala! Key works in the junkyard handle.

Hello curry, so I’m having the same problem. I don’t have the key for my replacement door handle. Could you please tell me how you removed the key cylinder from the replacement part? Thanks!

See post 13 &14. If you can't find the roll pin then I can't help you.

I already took the pin out from the back, but without the original key it’s not coming out.

I’m experiencing the same issue. I got the roll pin out but I cannot remove the cylinder without the original key… any work around to this?
