Hi I am having the most annoying rattle coming from the rear of my e46 vert m3, basically sounds like plastic rattling or creaking, happens when accelerate and lift off and when go over bumps!I have had the roof up and down and I still makes the noise, also had myself in the back of the car to hear the noise and it sounds like it's coming from the plastic compartment where the roof sits when it goes down, but after taping it and playing with it no noise at all! PLEASE HELP AS THIS NOISE IS KILLING ME! Many thanks
Has the subframe mounts been inspected? On the early E-46's it was a known issue that the subframe bolts would get ripped out.

Hi
No I haven't taken it to a mechanic yet, but I will have to just to get them to check over it in case it is then! Many thanks for your comment! It's just that I've been in the back seats and with the roof up it sounds like it's coming from where the roof goes back into! Would it be quite loud if it is them!? Wayne
Not always, but do get the rear suspension looked at, as these sounds only come when you go over bumps.

Yes it makes the noise going over bumps and also makes the noise when I'm holding the accelerator at 70mph then quickly let of and put foot back on the gas it makes the noise! I'll defo get the mechanic to check over the suspension and the sub bolts!
Hello everyone, well, I just fixed my car from a similar noise, here another possibility, I fix everything, RTAB's, sub-frame bushings, I even removed everything from the top, covers inside the trunk, etc etc to discover that the problem was the battery support... this BMW M3 has a very interesting design, and the base uses 5 large bolts... when I removed the battery, I realized 4 of those bolts were loose, and the noise was like if I had a bunch of tools in the trunk doing that rattling noise... I removed everything, cleaned and then tight the bolts using some Loctite for threads...
I hope this helps some of you.
