Flashing? Means major misfire. System has probably shut down the cylinder(s) involved.
Yes last time it was on I scanned it and had at least 4-5 misfires. It did it this morning on start up. It's below freezing, not sure if that is a factor, but stopped flashing and the SEL actually went off and it ran fine after a few minutes. This car doesn't like me...
If you haven't checked out Bringatrailer.com then the worm has turned for you my friend...

We're talkin' some Deutschland muscle."
Mostly from hanging out and drinking with motorheads and other bad influences...

Poor car...I asked if the 300k was really the mileage

This is a member's from bimmerfest. I'm asking for more info, but can anyone tell me what production date I would need for a 98 to work without pulling out the interior wire run? If possible...Shoot for $500 it might be worth the extra work...plus it's only 3 and a half hours away!
You seem to be ignoring the info given about using the '99 to '01 for this project...why? This is not an easy project or there would be a lot more on the road. It requires a lot of wiring changes under the best of conditions let alone use the older versions to start this MAJOR undertaking.
You are going to wind up with results like the M60 to M62 conversion or the complete rebuilding post - both will never run again. You might be adding yours to the list as well. Believe the people that have advised you to at least start with the best versions that will provide a remote chance of finishing this project..........

Because members said that the facelift started late 98...
With a bit of fabrication and welding it's not that hard to fit another BMW gearbox to the V12, a guy in town did a M73 twin turbo setup with a manual 6 speed diesel BMW gearbox mated to it, all shoved in a Nissan Skyline R32 body last year. And with all the rest of the tinkering involved with an engine swap the gearbox cant be the worst of the potential issues. But sure, it's not OEM so there will be some fabrication to make it work.
S62 swaps are awesome, but the have been done. Of course OP should fit a V12 in his shorty. Go for it. I've had 3 V12 Shortys and they are awesome, and if I had the skills to install a manual 6 speed I would and then never sell it.

I'm trying. psjr has one that I'm trying to figure out how to get. Gotta sell the seats in the sport just to get the money...dang it
Can anyone chime in here?...I'm was just wondering what I need to look for to get the steptronic ability when looking for a 750? Would I have to find one that already has it or is there another way? What makes the trans have this option? Converter, TCM? I just thought about this as I would really like to have this option, and I don't know enough about it. My guess is I just narrowed my search even more, and now it may never happen?
I believe you need the shifter and the TCM to get it to work. dville had a post where he converted his shifter to the steptronic. It was the 740 though.
Second page of this thread has some useful info:

I thought all US spec 99-01 750il's had steptronic.
I have it in the 750i and to be honest I'm not that fussed. I'd rather just put it in sport and let the Trans do it's thing. The steptronic is terribly slow when responding to what you want.

Well, I have steptronic. So I wouldn't know it any different. I think it shift just fine, but might be because It's what I'm used to? Thanks clark, I'll read over the thread. Maybe I'm in good shape already having the shifter

I'm really gonna have to start parting out my parts car so I can fund this. Dang holidays;-)
I think I found the one I need, but no money...so I need to part it...Anyone need anything? I'm trying to get the car back to my house next weekend when I can get a trailer

Yep, that's the one I mentioned. Its transmission sounds just like my transmission that has a bad oil pump.
So IMO price is way too high, though that is a nice interior.
As far as Steptronic, it was indeed standard on all 99-01 US 750s and not available on earlier ones. Parts needed for retrofit are the shifter assembly and a couple wires from the shifter to the AGS. Then a different flash of the AGS is needed, which you can do with programming or just swap in a donor from the right car.
