Oh wait, you said I could replace the whole body harness? Is that as difficult as it sounds?

It only means pulling everything out of the interior.

Like literally swapping all wires in the car? I haven't pulled up any carpet yet in these cars so I have no idea what's underneath

Well, that's an extra 5 grand right there.
There are only 3 plugs between engine and chassis on a 740. X20,X69,and X60004.
And 1 or 2 for the transmission.
If the chassis just connects to the EML and not each DME things should be fairly straightforward.
Definitely stay in the same era 99+

Money no object on that one! But it seems to me it could be done for not a ton of money. All it takes is a donor car and the expertise that can be found on this forum.

    This swap needs to happen!

Just as an out-there idea, how about a shorty 750i COUPE? I've wanted to build one for years... The only hard part for me would be the side glass. Did a pshop of what that might look like:

Hopefully, the same as happened in the past will happen again. Overhaulin' had cancelled/stopped production 2 or 3 prior times and came back from cancellation. We can only hope.

Hopefully! No chance of them showing up in Vermont to do any of my cars though .

Heck with overhaulin...they only did old muscle cars. Try something different than another mustang...

    Anyhow, on point.

If this is gonna ever happen I have a small window, and I can't find a 99+ so what are my realistic options, if any? It seems to me getting a pre facelift could work if I bring everything over?? What would I be losing? If money wasn't an issue I'd do the 6 speed with it or for that matter the S62 swap...but it is:-(

You could always just fix your engine's problems and maybe get a custom tune or a supercharger for more power? Unless you're doing it for the sheer novelty, you're not really gaining much by swapping an M73 in. It only has a little more horsepower, meanwhile it has a whole bunch of completely different problems than what you're used to.

Shoot...these M62tu are ticking time bombs, and when you throw in reverse not working...It's more than fixing cats or a gas cap. we all know the price to do the timing chains and the work involved..now throw in the trans which can easily be 800-1000 and that's me just buying the parts. If I can I'd rather have a shorty with a V12 for obvious reasons.

The V12's aren't that bad. The one I had didn't have any issues, but the V8 on the other hand...

What kind of budget are you expecting to have for this project? I'm betting that fixing the timing guides, cats, gas cap and trans would cost a lot less than a V12 swap. The M62TU is not that bad of an engine once you've done the timing guides, as most people do the other common issues while they're in there (front crank seal, timing cover gaskets, valley pan, valve cover gaskets). I know you can find a used 5hp24 transmission for less than $800-1000. As a matter of fact, I know of a M62TU with 126k miles and all the work mentioned done already selling about 1.5 hours from me for about $1500 on craigslist. It even comes with the manifolds (including pre-cats), so you might not even have a cat problem with it. Under $2.5k and you're back in business with a trans, assuming you do the work yourself. I am still considering buying that engine though, to put in my 7 so I can pull the S62 out and do something else with it. My buddy Brian (Redshift) is also going to be selling his M62TU with 91k miles with valley pan and a bunch of other work done, for a pretty good price, but he hasn't listed it yet. Look for it when he does.

560g has a V12 bellhousing, vs 420g having v8 bellhousing. I think the 560 can handle more torque.

I see. I think I knew the torque rating would be more but wasn't aware of the bellhousing pattern as I thought both the V12 and the V8 are the same.
