Kind of a mystery car but the carfax lists some good maintenance.

It’s a super cool car and was cheap (few grand) that I had to do it hahaha.

Hahaha hey Jim! Still have the 530. I just lowered it on Konis and HRs. Amazing combo. Have the manual pedals installed. Waiting for garage to do the manual swap.

Just beginning garage project. Have tm start with a smaller building due to zoning.. doing a 24x40 and building it ourselves.

    How’s things down Placitas way?

Been raining here for the last 2 days.
Good to hear you’re starting the garage. 24x40 is pretty good size.
I’ll have to take a ride up when you start banging nails.

    Absolutely. How’s the hotrod?

Get any snow? We’ve got prob five inch on the ground and still snowing. Enough to warrant working from home!

Hotrod is good, I pulled the tranny a few weeks ago to do some upgrades to it for future power adders. It’s back in now, but now looking for some better (less LOUD) mufflers.
We got 2” and it’s still snowing, suppose to turn to rain later today.

Tranny remove and replace sounds like fun! Uggg…

good luck on muffler shopping. I had a small collection going until I was happy. Screaming loud is for kids lol!
Largest you can fit or multiple mufflers in series. You may need a drone canceller J pipe too if you get a lot of that.

The tranny comes out from the inside of the car. Seats, console, etc removed. With the converter attached it’s close to 200 lbs.
The other way requires the whole front of the car to be removed and then pull the engine and tranny together.
The current mufflers are 12” long. I’m looking at a few that are fiberglass packed 18” long that will require some cutting and welding to make them fit.

Even worse than I could imagine! That’s rough Jim. A good cherry picker must have been very useful.

I tried a couple mufflers with some cheap pep boys flex hose and clamps then just wired it up to temporary hold it for testing. I tried one Borla and drove it for 10 minutes. Sounded awesome in tone, but still waaaay toooo loud. Took it off and returned it. Looked unused so got away with that. Maybe try some out before cutting metal.

A lot of mufflers are on Amazon and returns are super easy and free.

No cherry picker. I pulled the converter off and then managed to lift it out. I think if it weighted another 2 lbs I wouldn’t have been able to lift it.

The exhaust pipes and muffler are all ball and socket connections so I need to get a ball connection to do some testing like you did. I can wire it in place.
Yup, Amazon has a lot, same for Rock Auto.

    Update:
Just ordered two 18” long glass-pack Cherrybombs. A friend has smaller ones on his ‘32, they are pretty quiet.

I sent the Cherry Bombs back, the ID wasn’t what they specified.
I ordered 2 Borla mufflers and 2 Vibrant resonators.

I think the Borla's combined with the Vibrants will sound really nice but possibly too loud still for wife test. Good luck in your quest for less sound but also good sound. Its not easy. Are you running 2 1/2" duals? I was single 3", so maybe yours will be less sound volume than mine. I tried the Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator with the Borla Borla 40575 XR-1 and it was loud. Sounded reallly really good though...

The Vibrant resonators arrived today. I’m running a dual exhaust, 2 1/4”
I thought the Cherrybomb would have been built better….made in China. The ID was way off.

The Vibrant are a quality product, well built and well packaged.

The Borla’s should be here on Monday.

The Borla ProXS mufflers arrived today all t-304 stainless.
Hope I can get them installed soon. It’s not going to be plug and play, more like cut and weld.

It sure is. There’s a coolant Y-hose that goes under the intakes that was leaking. Having to take it all apart to get to it.

If needed VCG’s and spark plugs badly anyway. Still in reassembly stage.

Worked on cleaning up the valve covers today, waiting for the injectors to come back etc. Gaskets we’re original and we’re hell to get off the covers.

Anyway, dropped one and knocked into the other while the paint was curing LOL. Fortunately you can barely see the valve covers on the V12s.

Got around to replacing the 30 year old ball joints and the steering linkage in my inhareted truck. The cab has some gnarly rust spots but the frame and running gear is somehow unscathed.

I bought pos GMT800 to fix up. It's not as bad as my son's truck was, but it's pretty close. I believe I have the required skills to fix it up.

The frame is in a weird state. I bought it from a construction company, and it appears that it's seen some corrosive environments. The bed was completely shot, as well as around the handles on the storage doors. Whatever was in the bed also corroded the differential housing, but it still holds fluid.

    The plus side is it's a 6.0 LQ4 with about 150k miles and it has a 4L80E.

    2001 Silverado 2500HD, RWD. Unfortunately not a 4x4.

Right now the plan is to finish designing the flatbed so I can start building.

    Then...
    Replace cross members
Clean and POR15 the frame and everything else under the truck.
New exhaust. I plan on going with an uneven dual setup. Cheap headers -> x pipe -> 3" pipe -> dual spintech 6000 mufflers and then exit as shown in my render.

Over the winter I'll probably fix the cab corners and under the doors.

Maybe next year, a Truck Norris cam to give it that rowdy truck feel.
