I welded another crossmember to the pickup and cut off the bent up tow bar. Also, notice the obvious amount of rust... Well there's still that horrible coating on the frame. The wire wheel on the angle grinder isn't powerful enough to remove it. You gotta go at it with the flap disc. I still need to add a few plates to the green bar and weld a little more. The last crossmember will just be a tube I have laying around.

Then it's onto:
New brake lines and hoses
new fuel lines
bleed the brakes
install new shocks
repair the bed mounting locations on the bed
put it all together and gtfo my garage

I might rattle can the frame, but I'm not going to waste por15 on it.

So, we're probably looking at another year. lol my poor kid.

-as a side note, I also got parasites from eating bad produce (that's the assumption of the health department anyway). That was a fun 3 weeks, but I'm halfway through the antibiotics, so things are looking up!

Yikes! That does not sound fun at all I got food poisoning in March (right before the whole world shut down), and that was a miserable 24 hours. I can't imagine 3 weeks!

Primed some more panels on my dads squarebody project over the weekend.

Spraying Eastwood’s 2k Epoxy Primer Sealer out of a 1.4 tip at 30psi (at the gun). My dad lost the 1.8 tip but the 1:4 sprayed nicely.

That's such a clean work area! Your projects look like so much more fun than mine.


Meanwhile back in my mess of a shop. Blasting media is nice and horrible all at once.

I was almost done with the frame stuff, and then I noticed another rust hole, so I patched it up with stuff I had laying around. I still need to patch the top of the rear frame rails, but that's it for frame work.

I'm really proud of this single weld. It's the only weld I've ever been proud of. -the bead on the right anyway.

I also took advantage of prime day and bought a small plasma cutter. I got it for $191. Supposedly, it'll cut through 1/2" material. This is going to really cut down on cut-off wheel costs. Now I need to add another 220v outlet to the shop. Sharing between the welder and the air compressor is already annoying, but I'll need the compressor when cutting now.

I came close to buying one about 6 months ago. I bought a 4 x 8 sheet of 16 ga stainless but have a friend that lives down the street that has one.
It cut the stainless like butter.

Literally twice as fast as an E39 M5 is. Look how hard it's pulling all the way to 331. Look at how much it's moving around; jumped a half lane at times.

I'd be surprised if any parts around this thing are shared with an LS, haha. The crankshaft is a timkensteel billet piece. It's a flat-plane design, too.

Pressure washer for sure. Take off all the covers that you can, go to a local quarter car wash, spray away. Or rent a pressure washer. I bought one; a Karcher K1700 with accessories from Obsessed Garage.

Once you’ve gotten the bulk grime off, then you can go back with a degreaser of some type.
