If you saw the solar eclipse two days ago from anywhere outside the band where totality was visible, that's awesome. Even more so if this was your first time experiencing the sublimest of the sublime of celestial events.
But I really must remind, having now taken in both kinds, that there is an order of magnitude difference approaching the millions in degree of sheer gut-punching, mind-blowing, tear-jerking awesomeness between seeing the sun only partially eclipsed by the moon and seeing it completely vanquished by it. These two things may as well be described as taking place in two completely different universes.
No amount of professionally processed imagery or video can convey this difference/experience, too--and I was surrounded by colleagues whom I regard as probably the most talented in astrophotography in all of Los Angeles during this one.
There is no substitute for seeing one with your naked eye at least once, and there is no other way to implore someone who hasn't to do so. All thinking and curious people must.
I was in Douglas, WY with about 200 colleagues and friends at a private event on the outfield of a baseball field rented out by a coworker who has now seen twelve total solar eclipses all over the world. Former Apollo Astronaut Story Musgrave who's the only astronaut to ride in all five space shuttles was also there with us (he's that coworker's friend). They gave a few talks at the local library the night before:
We had custom shirts made for the event and I got it signed by both of them haha:
And here are another coworker's processed shots of totality. He's a telescope demonstrator at work and I consider him priobably to be the most talented astrophotographer in all of Los Angeles:
Overall still bereft of words over this.

Does $1000 for a totalled 740il with an M62nv, transmission (both under 100k)and no interior sound fair?

Mmmm... sounds pricey to me. Usually for a $1k totalled car yer gettin an interior, IMO. Depends on how good the motor looks blah blah I suppose and is the suspension loaded w/ new parts, or 100k "not quite but just about to wear out" parts.

Basically I'd be selling an engine with some scrap metal attached. I'd sell the engine out of the car as well, but if someone has a trailer this could be of benefit to both parties

Kinda crap morning this morning but highlight was after lunch got to run w/ some old old car bud friends... I was in the M3 topdown... Friends in assorted rigs: Cayenne Turbo, C6 Vette, modded V10 S6, modded B7 RS4 that may be one of best sounding cars I've ever heard, chick in a V8 S4 Avant.
Good times.

That is a lovely colour.
Yes, great color. Nice job on the fender flairs.
It's a factory 2002 color,"Turkis" I think he said it was.
He did all the body work. He said he sandblasted the body in his back yard.
The fender flairs are all metal for a VW mk2 iirc. Local shop did the paint work turned out beautiful.
Their were three 2002's today, talked with them a couple hours was great. I hope to own a 72 or 73 2002 in the next six months.
Normally Cars n Coffee is a little weak here, but today was a blast.
Anyone have recommendations for non-aerosol brake cleaner (or similar) + pump sprayer? I'm tired of buying brake clean; I go through a TON of it, especially when I'm cleaning oil pans and subframes.

Wow. if that's a factory color, it's ULTRA rare. I"m guessing the car wasn't that color to begin? Not that it matters.
Flares take me back... one of my best friends after HS inherited a 1600 from his aunt and uncle at some point, and his cousins at some point had misguidedly cut the fender arches for flaring but never finished the job. It was such a disaster trainwreck, not to mention this taking place in the northeast and this being a dailied year round car. What a shame. Car mighta survived had it not been for that intervention... but eventually it was just flaking off chunks of rusty metal left and right and got junked.

Tip one would be don't use brakekleen for everything. Use a less toxic aggressive but still effective solvent for pre-cleaning, then just use the BK for the gnarly spots that really needs it and/or final rinse down. I'm always amazed at how many guys use that stuff by the case like its water when you only really need it for the worst/final work. Something like purple power or citrus degreaser cleaner. There are pro formulations that are even better than the retail shelf stuff, I used to have a brand to buy but it was too much hassle to order from a wholesaler and I can't remember the name of the crap anymore. These days I use a lot of the citrus stuff for general non-solvent cleaning, the PP and others w/ sodium metasilicate in it will hazy up polished aluminum so you want to be selective with that or at least use it diluted and rinse clean immediately.
Tip two would be, what my pro tech bud uses in their Indy shop is a pressure sprayer that you air up w/ air compressor. Basically this thing. They buy the BK in bulk liquid then he always has this by his side. Ok not "this one" exactly, this was first google hit but you get the idea. I bet Eastwood sells one that's decent.

Back in the day we just used gas and kerosene to clean everything. It was cheap and did a great job, just don't smoke while your doing it.
its also here on amazon if u are in no rush and wanted it shipped free.

Yeah I used to use Kerosene too now that you mention it. Esp when I had a kero heater I used in the winter so I had plenty on hand. Stinky though.
