I hate Uber. Riding in some d-bags shi77y car, having him tell you his whole Uber story. Spoiler alert - it always goes like this: "yeah I was doing my (name his other jackass job/profession) and then realized hell I could make some money on the side so I started doing this (on the side/instead)! It's pretty cool. I drive around and pick people up when I have time." Really, is that how it works? I'm so surprised.
Last Uber driver I had went on and on about how his recent Dodge was really a Mercedes because you know Mercedes OWNS Chrysler! Sure dipchit. Your Dodge SUV is a Mercedes.
Didn't bother to tell him if anything his Dodge would be a FIAT, and Daimler hasn't owned Chrysler for TEN YEARS. He seemed like the type that'd get belligerent and start ranting about 'fake news' if you corrected him with facts.

I can use my 2002 E39 for Uber, just another reason to go facelift.

I just don't get to the point where I need to be driven around. I was the DD one night and gas was at E and I asked if anyone had $20 for gas and they gave it to me, 15 miles down asked the same question and got another $20. Kind of like uber I guess.

A lot of big cities don't have parking that makes it worth it.
I was on vacation in New Orleans. There was little to no parking at night. It was just easier to uber or taxi to dinner, then to a bar then home.
I used it last night because me and my buddy were out, hasn't seen each in a few years and were catching up. His wife wanted to go home, so she took the car. We caught an uber home later. It's not always a matter of drinking too much....

Uber is a terrible company. Nasty executives and company practices. Lyft is my app of choice; less stigma associated with it, though it's far from saintly itself.
I'm closing in on purchasing another E39... I think it's a fair price, and it'll need a little work, but it will be worth it.

Quick question; is the 16x9 nav screen from the early 00s the same between all BMWs? It's the same in the E38, E39, and E53, with just a different plastic bezel?

I think the early 00s had the smaller 4:3 screen before they switched over to 16:9.
From what I understand all the screens are compatible

Welp, look like after checking the head for flatness turns out it is not good anymore. With a straight edge and a feeler gauge there was about 5 to 6 thou of waviness between the three adjacent combustion chambers. Toyota specified no more than 3 thou. If it does exceed the tolerances then you must replace the head. Toyota repair manual doesn't even mention of resurfacing the heads. So, on to the local junkyard for another head that hopefully is in much better condition and is a low mileage one.
Camshaft journals can get out of whack when head is too warped. Might be OK though Awk.

This.
The thing is I really don't want to take a chance with this head now since it's going to cost me money to ensure there are no cracks (coolant leaking into intake/exhaust ports), hot tank it, deck the surface, line bore and hone the cam journals, may even ask to check the valve guides and ream it out. I, on the other hand, would lap the valve seats and valve's face, and install new valve stem seals. All that machining is going to cost me a lot now which isn't worth it when I can get another clean, low mileage head from local junkyard for the same price or less. So, that's the plan now.
