The cars are cool, but I hate those kinds of car guys. They buy those things, have no clue what work and effort went into doing any of it, then they rathole it up their a$$, don’t even drive them, then auction them off at another Barrett Jackson auction in a theatre near you in the near distant future.
The Supra was purchased by a guy named John Scalupi, or something like that. That dude has way too much money, and one hell of a car collection. About a year or so ago, he sold off about 50 cars to thin the collection down, but I think he bought about 25 or so high dollar stupid money cars!!!
Toyota offered the Supra last night, Supra number 1, special paint, 1 off interior, all proceeds did go to 2 major charities, of course, Scalupi ended up with it, and it will probably never get driven... poor thing, that’s equivalent to keeping a race horse locked up in its pen.

Like John Cena and the Ford GT - gets on the super exclusive "no you have to be a rich REAL CAR GUY and not just a real rich guy" list... And then signs an agreement not to flip it, then goes and flips it right away... What a d1ckhead. At least he lost a buncha money ("confidential settlement" but supposedly Ford was going after the sale price HE got for the car plus $75k in penalties... sounds like they had him dead to rights so it was probably something like that... )

I was reading an article on the mid 80's GM car diesel fiasco and saw this.....

Lincoln got into the act with its Mark VII luxury coupe, which picked up an M21 straight-six turbo diesel from BMW for the 1984 and ’85 model years.

Yesterday did the first work on the 'new' X1 we picked up for the wife from my father.

What a bitch of a day. Thought it was gonna be an hour or so of oil change, cabin air filter, couple other little items, then I'd be off to better more fun activities...

Ended up almost a half day. Bullet point rundown.

    1. Jack up car, open hood find massive piles of oak leaves and acorns from my fathers back yard at base of the windshield. OK ha ha, no biggy. Clean up.
    2. Start oil change, remove massive plastic undertray with 17 bolts. Moron. Unnecessary. Little access flap further back is for oil changes. Level 0 curse words, not too bad. Put back 17 bolts and massive under tray. Yay for cordless drivers. Start draining oil.
    3. Oh crap the cowl drains - which are giant open grills therefore very hard to clog - are completely clogged with organic material which has turned into soil. You could make a hydroponic weed farm in there. Jesus! Ha ha. Joke with wife. Clean out.
    4. Remove cabin air filter cover - OH SHTZ ANOTHER GIANT PILE of acorns and leaves underneath...! Uh oh.... Clean up... Uh ha ha slighly more joking with wife, becoming less funny. Use Level 1 curse words.
    5. Look around... and... oh crap... giant rats/mouse/chipmunk/beaver/honey-badger/tree-sloth nest under the engine cover... Uhhh... how does the engine cover come off anyway...?
    6. Remove giant cowl tray which... turns out has been cemented in place by organic material turned into dirt-glue, requiring extreme force to dislodge, causing 2 plastic tabs to break as it suddeny pops free (small blessing: not really highly required tabs...). Use Level 2 curse words.
    7. Remove engine beauty cover. Struggle to figure out how wiring harness clips work. OK, fine. Break vacuum nipple on beauty-cover mounted vac reservoir trying to dislodge stuck-on fitting. Oh great. What does that do. Oh. Its important. Something to do with wastegate and maintaining turbo boost etc. Level 3 curse words.
    8. Vacuum out giant piles of rodent nesting materials and stored food. Put vacuum away, but then have to bring it back out again, twice for additional spots that were missed.
    9. Text old man with pictures. Reply: "Ha ha I didn't even know we HAD an engine bay in that car!". Mmmm. Yeah. Not really funny at this point.
    10. Change oil filter. Find crappy mis-fitting squashed filter that from the service label in the car seems to have been some budget crap Wix product. Find Wix-tech dude used plumbing pliers on the cap so its a little chewed up. Mrrrmmmf.
    11. Start oil fill. Realize 2-3quarts in that in all the excitement and cursing at rodents, the drain plug is still out. OK not first time, but haven't done that in about 10yrs. Use Level 4 curse words and increase cursing volume setting. Rush under car and save probably .5-.75 of a quart from draining out.
    12. Remember that the stupid car has no dipstick to see how much I did or did not have in the car at this point. Oh effing great. Repeat some Level 3 cursewords. Do some rough calculations and throw solid 4.5 quarts in gauging this should be in the 'safe to start but almost certainly not overfilled' range.
    13. Take beauty cover down to basement for "contingency engineering ideation session". Discover reservoir actually has a second nipple that is capped, swap hose over to that, plug busted nipple hole with nice stainless screw. Fist pump and take back some Level 4 cursewords. A rare win for the home team.
    14. Drop car down again, start up with trepidation, sounds fine, back out of driveway, and spend 1/2hr with hose and brush and buckets of hot soapy water washing out cowl drains, washing all the trim trays covered in organic Oak Glue, then reassembling engine bay.
    15. Test drive, let car warm up in driveway, sounds a little noisy, add another 1/2 quart... Take for test drive, eventually finally oil reading comes up (stupid car wont' give an oil reading until its fully hot and has been driven blah blah... very helpful when you're worried if there's enough oil in there...) exactly at the "Max" level, like it was part of the plan. Woo hoo second win.

I think this car will be fine... and it seems reasonably easy to work on once you know how to get around it... But man that was not a fun start...

Great start on the new wife whip JC! Don't you just love the blind ignorance of people. Oh sorry, that was a family member I was dissing. Any wires chewed up under the hood? That no dipstick sh!t blows.
