Last week it had been sitting outside in the rain. I went for a ride and it started misfiring intermittently on that drive. The next day it was only firing on 5 cylinders so I ran a scan. " Cylinder 5 misfire detected " I swapped coil 5 with coil 1 and drove around the block - still on 5 cylinders but the code then read " Cylinder 1 misfire detected ". I checked the date codes on the coil packs and they were from 2004 so I figured I'd treat it to 6 new ones rather than replace them one at a time. I got them from FCP Euro for $157 shipped.
well, it was last weekend.. DISA valve 'O' ring, cleaned ICV and a vacuum hose and plug on intake by firewall. I have some serious rough idle issues, hoping it is deteriorating/ed vac lines. One line going to vacuum reservoir below intake manifold broke in several places when I tried to remove. Ended up using razor knife to get broken piece off of nipple. Lots of fun squeezing my big hands in there.. :
This is the only car in the world where this is an applicable question, every single day.
Trans filter and flush. Yesterday the DME and trans were updated. It never ends.
Parking lights had water in them, and the weather stripping was falling off, so I used a hair dryer to blow the moisture out through some cracks in the edge, sealed with silicone seal II, and reinstalled. I still need to get some weather stripping to fill the gap between the light and the fender. They're a little worn, but not too bad--worth not spending the $60.
"One at time time" work is a waist of time unless you really can't afford cash wise to go ahead and fix the simple parts, of which access is gained to, from dismantling, working on given area... Plus if one went the "other(s)" aren't close behind as we all know,.. With any part...
Moved it out of the driveway such that my Dinan540 could get out for a weekly New Years joy ride... Much needed: break for the 330, and romp in the 540... Gotta get my clutch action in, as my 330 is an auto and purposely so... In fact I'm very impressed in the thorough algorithm the auto sport mode runs, so many parameters, agreeable, almost mind reading... Especially for a 15 year old single torque converter auto... Cheers 2016 drive safe
Started mine for the first time tonight since I bought her. There was a fire which burned the dash, wiring, glass, and a few trim pieces. I bought it, stripped the whole car down in 3 weeks and put a full harness in from another donor car. Tonight I started her for the first time, it's a good way to start the new year!
Well done man..
Was the fire started by the heated seats by any chance? Older BMW heated seats are notorious for starting fires... Or do u not have all the deets...?
[QUOTE="angeleye540i;29014012"]Was the fire started by the heated seats by any chance? Older BMW heated seats are notorious for starting fires... Or do u know... Mostly in E 34 and that era, I've never heard of an E 46 catching fire from the heated seats, but there's a first time for everything I guess... Here I go again, ranting on a hypothetical theoretical scenario...
Changed the shift knob from the original, simulated wood (nice but cracked) to all leather. Feels better than the old one, which felt kind of slippery, and looks more like it means business.
According too, it started from the the light switch on the left hand side of the dash, but from the damage I would say there was a pinched/frayed wire in the harness where it branches off towards the steering column. It's hard to say really.
New ngk plugs and new Bosch coils
eeeks!

Bought a new key--$222. So thankful it programmed without a hitch since the closest dealer's 50 miles away.
New thermostat came in the mail today for the 330ci, having it put on by my indy tech while I go to traffic court for speeding in the D5 (Dinan540)... I'll be in the D5 for the venture to argue my case and hopefully don't have to pay the full fine on 26mph over $$$$... Wish me luck
Hi i am new here. Replaced front stabilizer link on my 325i the one on the left is making that clunking noise over the road bumb ended up replacing both of them so i dont have to do it again for the right one soon. Got the shop replaced my AC system except the compressor both the evap and condesor is leaking and replaced the dryer and the expansion valve as well. Next that is due but not urgent is transmission flush and new filter. Fyi My 325i 2002 clocked in at 95000km (second hand) My previous BMW was a 1992 318i that i bought new and used it almost 22 years. Sad i have to sell it but it is time to move on, can't be happier with my 325i.

Being still unhappy with the center console cup holders on my 2004 330xi (which I had previously reconditioned with "Plastidip"), I replaced them with the storage bin with sliding door. It looks much cleaner, and is more useful.
Also, as angeleye warned me, my attempt at repairing my water-filled parking lights didn't work out so well (water's still getting in), so I ordered new lights.
Vanos seals, vacuum lines, and new tires/wheels
Did a battery reset to try and see what happened with my gauge cluster which I may be having a problem with either that or the temperature sensor for the coolant, it is interesting how the automatic transmission learns you're driving, after the reset, it's blank and ready to relearn, I drove to see how the reset went because one dude having my problem on the thread I am about to post fixed it with a battery reset the other fixed it with the new thermostat which I just got put in on Friday, and the third fixed it with a software update which I will be calling the dealership about in the morning it should be around 100 bucks here's the thread if anybody is interested... http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...=933882&page=2
This is my first automatic BMW, I am very impressed with the amount of working parameters this sport mode/transmission has its like it reads my mind sometimes, so far very happy with the engine and trans combination, I have heard convertible eat 46 BMW's are known for having problems with their gauge cluster anyone else heard anything about this, also anyone else seen anything like this thread I posted is talking about because it seems to be happening to me as well we will see how this goes... I may start a separate thread if this software update does not change anything
