Anyone tried Nexens? We just got a wholesale account at the shop and they offer them.
It's looking like No Coast is going to be a tire showdown. I am taking a pair of Nankang NS-20s, a pair of Zestino Gredge 240s, a pair of WestLakes, a pair of Kendas, and a pair of Federal 595s. A buddy is trying out the grippier Nankangs, Nitto NT-01, and Zestino Gredge 140s.
2 LS powered cars, 1 E46 and 1 FC, same track, same day. Should be interesting!
After just a tiny amount of abuse on a set of Federal 595s I just got, it looks like the rubber is just falling off of them... Not impressed so far. Lol
The Nankang NS-20s I have on the 540 haven't fallen apart at all with probably about similar abuse. But I guess it's hard to say, since there could have been something funny about the surface in one area where I abused the 595s... Could have been textured concrete, and I guess that would probably cheese grater most tires.

The only time I managed to chunk a 595 was when I did a 5 minute donut session.
Status: Someone put glitter in my oil. Wait. Why's all my oil outside the engine? What's that knocking?
The Nankangs (in my experience) don't like heat. I've gone through 15-20 pairs of them and they wear fine until you start hot lapping, then they just self destruct.
The 595s I have were my old steers, and they were garbage on the front. I managed to start to chunk them out understeering haha.
Zestino's have a load of hype, and that's what got my interest sparked. Even with a 100 off coupon, they're still double the price of the Nankang, so they have to be pretty phenomenal to warrant their price tag.
When is your event where you'll be running all of these tires?
This weekend down in Albuquerque.
Unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to get a set of Kenda's in time, 40 series aren't stocked locally and 45 series cause frame contact, so I will be running
3 pairs Nankang NS-20
3 pairs Westlake
1 pair Zestino Gredge 240
1 pair Federal 595s.
I am going to try to run them at similar times during each day for a consistent test. Track temp is supposed to be + or - 5* both days.
That's gonna be GREAT!!
Well, the test didn't happen as I decided to run into a wall and break my car 1/2 way through the first day, lol
Bummer! Hopefully you and your car aren't too messed up.
What happened with the Nankang?
They failed miserably before the wear bars. Both fully delaminated and one chucked off so hard it took my flare with it. Never will those be on my car again.
The Duraturn 265-35-18 is ok, they have ok grip down at 14psi, they last a really long time. Probably about the same as triangles, but nothing great minus the fact that they are cheap.
My hands down favorite drift tire, is Velozza, specifically the zxv4. Although, every tire I have run from them I have liked, I just normally run the zxv4
I've run them in 205-40-17, 245-40-17 and 255-35-18 . They have great grip for the price, a lot more than triangles and are the same price, lots of smoke as well. They last as long to longer than triangle as well, i've run them as high as 100psi (205s on full track) and as low as 15psi. I have never had one Delaminate or chunk, best part is they are one of the cheapest tires I've run haha .
Velozza smoke on 245-40-17
My car is a m52 turbo at 400whp for reference.
Has anyone tried any Rydanz ROADSTERs?

i'm actually teetering on the fence of trying some of the cheaper offerings from walmart. hard to ignore the price of their cheap tires.
13 Grand Cherokee Limited V8 - Daily Driver - Wife
97 Z3 2.8 Roadster
95 325i Sedan - Project #ebayE36
90 BMW 535i/5 - i should probably work on this again...
That's what I was thinking. Especially when they will deliver them to the store for free, then you pay them $5 each to mount them... I forgot to ask what their disposal fee is for the old ones.
One great thing about drifting, you get to try out a lot of tires. Lol
I'm curious about how well the Douglass Performance DP-H @ walmart would do. They are uber cheap and come in many sizes. Plus they are really soft (I know this because I used to mount a ton of them when I worked @ a walmart in college), so they could potentially have good grip. I think I'll give them a try @ some point, but I'm no expert reviewer of tires, so some other opinions would be cool.
I got a pair of Rydanz Roadsters and a pair of Ingen A1s mounted up at Walmart yesterday. You can't beat the price, mounting is free if you get the tires from them!
Now we'll see if I can figure out how to drift at all haha. At least I know I can throw the remains of the 595s on my car and get some drift action going, those suckers fling all over the place as they are shedding rubber.
A1's tend to last a long time. We can get pretty much an entire day out of one pair without hot lapping too much.
Thanks Mike, sounds like they should last me pretty well then, since I have very little power and very little skill haha...
Interestingly regarding 595s falling apart on me, I found this in an old thread:
I was running mine at 50-60psi cold.
He's got like 800hp though...
Yeah, I guess that makes a difference, huh? Lol I have a good solid 140 at the crank, and my 595s fell apart (feathered) pretty badly in about a minute of sliding around. A couple sessions of attempting to drift on a small oval hurt them some more. There is still some tread depth in the middle area of the tread though where the blocks are more solid. I'm not sure if there is much to be applied from a high powered proper drift car to a low powered nearly stock sh*tbox like mine or vice versa.
For what it's worth though, I went out to scrub in the Rydanz Roadsters from Walmart tonight, and then held up very well to a minute or so of abuse. I only had about 35psi cold in them though.
They should be pretty awesome though, "Engineered in Europe" is molded right into the sidewalls of them haha.
Feathering isn't bad. It's literal chunking that's the issue. I've only had that problem with feddies when they get too hot
