longer Control arms create space for your tires at the frame. Larger Spacers create space for the tires at the control arm during full lock. I think that makes sense. With my tiny 245/35 tires, I don't have frame space issues. I have control arm issues. Also, the main reason for the change up is that my 17x9 apex wheels are 16.8 lbs vs the 22 lbs BBS style 42 wheels. Believe me, if there was a light 17x8 -10mm wheel I would own it!!!!! The 5+ lbs difference between the wheels more than makes up for the addition of another 20mm of wheel spacer. Plus now my front and rear wheels are all the same!!
you're having control arm clearance issues because the e46 arms are just horribad for clearance. i made a thread about it on r3v back when i had an e30

long control arms give you frame clearance, the spacers give you both control arm and frame clearance. with your currently proposed wheel size/offset/control arm setup you will probably have big clearance issues near full lock. realistically you just need longer control arms

Are you referring to E46s or E36s with ultra arms? Just curious. I know E46s have the strut towers spaced further out than E36s, resulting in less negative camber when extending the LCA. Honestly, I will probably just get the standard SLR arms, because this is still a street car at the end of the day, and I'd like to keep my fenders intact.
sorry, i was responding to jeepster. an e36 with ultra-length arms would have (roughly) a minimum of -7* of camber while an e46 with the same arms would have something around -3.5*
the distance between the centers of the strut tower holes (big hole, not the tophat holes) on the e46 is about 2" wider than that of a e30/36

with standard arms you could hypothetically run up to 0* of camber on an e46. a custom 15.5" arm would give you exactly what you want

Tr968 is the most popular
I didn't notice any mention of Nankangs in this thread, but has anyone tried the NS-20s? I got a set of them in a cheap wheel and tire package from discounttiredirect.com with a set of 18" M-pars for my 540, and I actually really like them. But that car is no drifter...yet?
Second thing: Do we need a 2016 edition of this thread?
Funny you mention that, I just bought 4 pairs of NS-20s to try out. Haven't tried them yet, but they seem to be the popular choice here.
Popular among the drifters in your area I assume? That's interesting! They do seem to be pretty reasonably priced if they work well.
Yeah! We have a local drift guy who is a tire dealer and those are his cheapest option, so they seem to be what the majority of the people use.
I was just about to come here to ask you guys about Nankang NS-20 's... weird. Anyways, I'd love to get some impressions, especially compared to Achilles ATR Sports, because those are the 2 I'm looking at right now. Thanks!
I have a set of Ecsta AST, a set of Achillies ATR, and a set of Nankang NS-20 all mounted and the plan is to run them back to back to back at the memorial day bash.
That is fantastic! I can't wait to read about it!!!
That's good to know about the Antares Ingen A1. They are 59 dollars a tire (225/45r17) with free in-store pickup @ walmart, which is realllyyyyy hard to beat price-wise, so I've been considering running them in the rear (m52 w/ boltons). Anyone else have any experience w/ these?
Still repping Kenda KR20 here. They last forever for how much smoke and power you can put through a pair.

I like Triangle 968 the best and get them for $65/each installed
I won some Kenda's and they are good (slightly prefer the Triangle's)
Also this happened below to my buddies Nankang AS-1 first run out
