Hoping I can get the seller down some. The car drives well but you can tell the engine hasn't been touched in awhile. I'd almost rather the inverse.

For those who browse for e39 a lot, where's my best bet to find a well maintained e39? CL is all dealers...

Be patient is the most important advice. It took me a few months and a couple wasted road trips to find the right car searching every medium in a 500 mile range. Keep looking at Craigslist, autotrader, cars.com, etc. Of course be careful with the usual craigslist jalopies.

The cars worth buying will be the ones in which the owner took the time to wash the car and take good, clear pictures, as well as writing an ad using full sentences. Cars with dark, blurry, pictures and ads like "drives gr8 perfect condition needs nothing except my mother backed it into a telephone pole but have no picture come pick up today" are going to be basketcases that aren't worth their weight in scrap.

I remember a 2000 M5 for sale that had that exact expression in the ad. It's not that uncommon, but people are hesitant to use it nowadays because of how politically correct everything has to be...
