    Edited for clarity.
the larger divided housings will flow more obviously because of its size... But it will not spool well in an open manifold. At least not in that size. It won't be as bad on a 3.2L but it won't spool like a 35r I promise you that

4 different turbo cars/1 BB chevy/1 all motor+nitrous...7 different turbos, 4 different intercoolers, 6 different EMS systems etc etc. Looking to play E36 on boost.

Honestly im not worried about it.

Ive spent hours upon hours reading on it. Seems to be a lot of contradicting information. I really am not worried about it not spooling up well on a 3.2L.

Ok up to you. if you decide you can't live with it, you do have other turbine housing options.

    Yeah I figured that.

How much of a difference in spool do you think there would be with a different housing?

Hard to say and what are we comparing to? Lots of factors here but It will not spool like a 35r.

With that size compressor, why bother with such a big exhaust side? That housing would be better suited for a high revving Evo with a nice TS manifold that needs the exhaust flow for high boost at 9k+... The TS 1.00 would've been a better match for what you want, or getting a T4 > T3 adapter and running the 0.70 AR.

As for the divided housing on an open manifold vs. a true TS mani, it still helps. XinlinesiX ran an open, top mount T4 OBX manifold on his 845whp e34 wagon, with a divided entry 6466 and his spool wasn't THAT much worse than my friend Ben's similar set-up, when he was around 600whp on 91 craptane, but Ben is running a Radowski TS manifold, with custom cams and pistons.

So last night was first start. Started up and idled super smooth.. went painlessly. Hopefully that luck continues...

After quite a few changes and more delays than expected I am nearing the end. I hope.

Today I am going to put the cooling system and lights in and take it for a drive if I can get my boost gauge working.

Great news. I want to read about how the S256 with large turbine responds. Note that it will "wake up" with more boost if you are starting out with low boost.

yes, most turbos are very flat when at low low boost

SOOOOOOOOOOO... today was the big day! Took her out for break in and some low boostin fun.

    Lemme start with HOLY SHIT....

I took it out for break in and some low boost(5psi) pulls. Was incredible. However I must have a boost leak as A) I am only making 5 psi on a 7.5 psi spring set up and B) it is spooling much later than it should.

All my charge piping is welded, couplers are all super tight, ICV hoses all solid. So my guess is the BOV. It is wide open at idle and it doesnt seem to close unless I stab the throttle to 3kish. I also wasnt making boost in 1st gear, granted I only got to 50% throttle in 1st. Got to a max of 75%ish throttle in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

But if this is my biggest problem im happy. 5 psi compared to my tapped out NA set up was insane, and my NA set up was absolutely great. 5 psi and what must be a boost leak was MUCH faster than my NA set up and power came on much much earlier.

So all in all a good day, went smoother than I expected.

I have to give a huge thanks to Vollosso. Ive said it several times, I know.. But he has helped me SO much and to get here with relatively no issues has to be accredited in large portion to him.

2 hours from Opelika. But I have no problem with making a drive to meet up with you.

Absolutely man, I cant make an accurate assessment yet as I am def having a boost leak issue somewhere. But even so and at 5 psi... damn.

You haven't even lit the match that lights the fire yet.

Turn the wick way up, maybe 4 times that 5psi. But at your pace, don't be foolish, you truly now have a weapon that can be pointing in your own mouth if your not careful. I suggest not going too heavy into throttle around corners just yet.

Yeah, all I know at this stage is even with a boost leak, 5 psi is wayyyy better than my tapped out NA set up. I plan to run current boost(should be 7.5psi once leak is fixed) until engine and clutch break in is done.

    Ill go from there.

The reason why it is way better, is because you have so much more torque all the way to redline!

    Congrats on boosties!

    Thanks!

Drove it about 50 miles yesterday, went really well.

Two main issues; My valve cover is cracked so I am spewing quite a bit of oil. No more driving till I get another. Its my fault, I dropped it when installing and I thought it would be fine. Not the case.

Other issue is my BOV. It was wide open at idle and I dont think closing very quickly either. Took it out and it had the weakest spring in it. So no wonder! Getting new spring and valve cover and hope to be back on the road within a week.

Overall I am super happy if these are my biggest problems after my first FI build...

What is the vacuum at idle? You may have a leak in the boost gauge line.

20ish. I have a digital boost gauge and the hose for it is like 2 inches right off manifold. Highly doubt it's leaking. But I will boost leak test before it gets back on the road.

Out of curiosity, what are you getting at?

Congrats. Your reaction was the same as mine. Welcome to the club. The only thing I regret is my stock 328 has only 500 miles on it since I went turbo. Poor car is feeling very neglected. I'm going to sell it.
