Okay okay you guys broke me! I got a block for a really good price locally (thanks wilson!!!) And the machine shop is going to bore that one out instead of sleeving the old one.

Thanks for talking me out of sleeving it.

Unfortunately I never found that spare block, otherwise you could have had it. I know I'm gonna be kicking myself when it turns up somewhere dumb in a few weeks

Make sure you supply the engine shop with the front cover in case the block needs to decked. Also, check the bore that the water pump sits in for any damage from a previous water pump failure. I had this issue and it caused me to chase my tail for a couple of years trouble shooting cooling problems.

Yup they decked my old block w/timing cover so I bolted it on to this new block and asked them just to true the block up to the timing cover. Cover is immaculate.
Hoping for better luck with this block!

Does anyone know what this wire goes to on obd1 hrness? Lost a connector. I think it's the wire that goes to the alternator but want to be sure.

I got my block back today and they got all the cylinder sizes correctly! I'm ecstatic I gapped cyl six rings to 0.019 top and 0.022 second ring. Maybe I'll get the others done tomorrow.

Lol! I actually love the sound of the BOV. In fact I would consider going turbo just to hear the 'psssh' of the bov. I might even put a fake bov on a NA car XD.

I've thought about it, if I got an efr I'd block of the internal bov. No way could I have a turbo and no turbo noises..

    Made some good progress today!
Gapped my piston rings and installed main bearings and checked clearances. Crankshaft main clearances were all between 0.015 and 0.02 according to plastigauge. Considering I'm using same crank and same brand bearings as my old engine I am happy always that and going to continue.

One question I have regarding the oil rings; JE says min clearance of 0.015. I am getting 0.013-0.015. It's really hard to accurately tell with a feeler gauge because the rings are so flimsy. Should I file them a bit or just run them as is?

Easy way to measure the oil ring gap is to put an old top ring in the cylinder first and put an oil ring down on top of it and line up the gaps. It sits flat that way. I usually just check the oil ring gaps visualy. l don't even measure them.

Good idea I'll try that tomorrow!
Would it be big deal if the oil rings were a thou or two tighter than JE calls for?
